  1. Pat, Melissa and girls: You are in our thoughts & prayers and will remain there forever.

I first met Nick when I became Scoutmaster of Troop 19. Nick was already a member of the troop when we brought in about 20 brand new Scouts.

I’ll never forget how Nick took these young boys under his wing, encouraging and teaching them the values and principles of Boy Scouting, especially the sense of community service. It only made sense to me when I learned that Nick had become a Pueblo Police Officer, as he always wanted to help people.

I rarely saw Nick over the years, but Laura saw him occasionally at Parkview Hospital during the course of his police duties. She always got a hug from Nick.

As the outpouring of sympathy and support at the funeral service demonstrated, Nick was a loving son, husband, father and brother…but I’ll never forget the image of a young, red-headed Nick sitting on the floor with a dozen or more younger Scouts gathered around him, sharing his knowledge and providing true leadership.

Nick was a very special young man and we will miss him always.

  2. To the family of Nicholas Heine, My thoughts and prayers go out to each of you. I too have been through the hell, heartbreak and sorrow that each of you are feeling at this time. I lost my best friend, husband, and father of our two children almost 21 years ago and I still remember his precious smile and beautiful eyes. He too loved his son and daughter as Nick loved his two precious little girls and his wonderful wife, mother, brother and the rest of his family. Yes, there is a huge hole in your lives right now but I can attest that with time, prayers and family and friends to lean on, that hole does eventually grow smaller and smaller. It will never fully close, but that is for all the memories of your loved one to keep coming back and saying hi and that he loves and misses you and that he is watching over each of you and keeping you safe. Be strong and know that Nick is in a place that we should all envy but know that we will all be together again when the good Lord see’s fit. God Bless each of you and know that you will not be walking this rough road alone, that the Police Family that was Nick’s life will be there for you whenever you call upon them, as will your family and friends. Once a Police Family, always a Police family!!!! God Bless you Nick and thank you for your service to the City of Pueblo! Patti Jeske, wife of Raymond E. Jeske, who also left us suddenly on July, 17, 1987.

Take Care and we are thinking about you.

  22. Dear Pat and family,

I want to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am sorry for your lost. I went to the police academy with Nick. He was a team member that will never be forgotten. Nick was the type of person that would go out of his way to help anyone out. He was that way all the way thru the academy. When we graduated Mary told us that we all reminded her of a flock of geese, when one fell behind, the rest would stop and go back to help. That was the way we all were. Pueblo PD lost one of the team, and Nick will always be in our hearts.

  23. Dear Pat and Family,
We are greatly saddened to hear of Nicholas’s passing. It was always such a pleasure to know him and watch him grow as a son, husband, father and police officer. We know how very proud of him you are, and his passing is a loss not only to your family, but his family in blue and the entire city of Pueblo. You are all in our thoughts and prayers, and we are sorry that we aren’t able to be with you at this time.

    Sincerely,
    Kent and Pam Burger
