Metoda Mencin-Peterson, 92, born into this life in Stari Trg pri Ložu, Slovenija and passed away August 24, 2014, into eternal life. Survived by children, John (Ann) Mencin of Denver, Mark (Cheryl) Mencin of Colorado Springs and Cyndy (John) Barkowski of Orland Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Leah (Gil) Garbe, Brett (Alexis) Mencin, Andrew Mencin, Sarah (Kevin) Cuddihee, Kaitlyn Barkowski, John Barkowski, Jr. and Cristina Barkowski; and three great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her first husband, Milan Mencin; and second husband, Dr. Walter Peterson.
Metoda is one of the last Slovenian immigrants to settle in Pueblo. She was a key organizer in establishing the Slovenian Library and taught Slovenian at University of Southern Colorado (SCSC). She continued to teach individual lessons until March of this year.
She was also a member of KSKJ St. Joseph Lodge # 7. Rosary followed by funeral Mass, 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014, at St. Mary Church, 307 E. Mesa Ave. Private interment, Roselawn Cemetery.
