Mary (McConnell) Johnstone (Jonnie) Hudgens, Smith, 88, was born March 30, 1927, and passed August 16, 2015. Mary was adopted by the Johnstone family of the Cheyenne Wells area in 1945. She had nurse's training at Seton Nursing School in Colorado Springs then became an R.N. at the Colorado State Hospital, then head nurse serving the North East, ATC and Youth Sections, for 32 years. There she made some friends for life, several were Rose Marchbanks, Doris Norwood, Rosalie Dunn and Doris Evertt. When she retired she happily cut coupons for SRDA for many years. Preceded in death by an infant son; first husband, Jesse L. Hudgens; and second husband, Lloyd Smith. Survived by her son, Neil 'Butch' Hudgens; and numerous nieces and nephews, those especially close were Barbara Howard, Robert (Cheryl) Hudgens, Sandi (Tony) Albo and Beverly (Roy) Carver; and Smitty's kids, Debbie Penvose and Steve (Patsy) Smith. A special thanks to the 'Flock' of residents at Parkview Medical Center Drs. Scaff, Lacroix, Longfellow and 'Matt' who kept up the good fight till the end... all with big hearts. A very special thanks to the staff at University Park Care Center who made her final days comfortable and worry free. Please, no flowers, just a smile and a memory.
