Maria H. Gomez, 95, born in Barela, Colo., on April 9, 1910, and from University Park Care Center, in Pueblo, Colo., went to her final reward in Heaven on Feb. 24, 2006. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence Rivera of Raton, N. M., and her daughter, Mary Alice 'Carmelita' Gomez of the family home in Pueblo. Maria is also survived by her other children, Andy Gomez of Trinidad, Richard (Rose) Gomez of Rye, Ernest Gomez of Pueblo, Tony (Roberta) Gomez of Pueblo, Madelina (Rudy) Gurule of Avondale and Linda Hubbard of Laramie, Wyoming; stepdaughter, Sara Sisneros of California. Maria was also the beloved and loving grandmother to over 131 grand, great and great-great grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Juan A. Gomez; children, Delores Gomez, Nash Gomez, Margaret L. Martinez, Patsy Garcia, Fred E. Gomez, Justo P. Gomez and Louis S. Gomez, Sr.; siblings, Frank Rivera, Salvador Rivera and Stella Montoya; grandchildren, Johnny Gomez, Louis Gomez, Jr., Milo and Ross Martinez, Dwayne and Bert Gurule, Gary Gomez and Drais Hubbard, I. Maria was a true pioneer woman. She was able to experience many adventures such as being born in a box car, married at age 15, ran a farm and sold vegetables out of a buggy. She was an extremely strong woman who loved her Catholic faith which kept her strong through all the family crises; from seeing three sons serve their country to being the center of the family. She was its true 'heart.' All her family felt her strong love and faith. She had a great sense of humor and the most wonderful laugh. Her family will miss her love of sweets and Lawrence Welk! As she got older, she loved to travel and finally she flew on a 747 to Disneyland. She truly had a 'wonderful life.' Services are as follows: Funeral Mass, 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at Christ the King Church, 1708 Horseshoe Dr., in Pueblo, with the Very Reverend Father Tom Adrians as celebrant. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at Holy Trinity Church, in Trinidad, with the Reverend Father Gene Renard as celebrant. Interment will be at Trinidad Catholic Cemetery alongside her beloved husband and son, Fred. Reception will follow at St. Joseph's Hall, in Trinidad. Maria's family would like to thank the staff at University Park Care Center for the loving care of Maria, especially Alicia and Bertha, who gave her great attention and extra tender love. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I will miss Grandma Gomez. Her spirit, determination, and love of family will always be with me. You are all in my thoughts as you go through this time. God bless each and every one of you.

  2. May you find comfort in the wonderful memories of your Mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  3. As I remember my grandmother, my memories of her are filled with love, joy and happiness. She could be tuff at times, but I knew she loved me. From her sweet rice, to taking her and Aunt Carmel to New Mexico, she always insisted on buying lunch or putting gas in the truck. Her home was always warm and welcoming, and she was quick to feed you. I have so many memories of her, to many to share here. But grandma, you will always be in my heart…I will always love you.

  4. Rest in peace grandma, I will always remember you with love and affinity for my family traditions. God bless you and the whole family.

  5. Grandma, I love you with all my heart. I only wish Daniel and Savannah would have been able to know you as I did. I hope I have half your strenght, I am lucky and blessed not to mention proud to have been your Grandson. God Bless you.

  6. My deepest sympathies to my close friends and especially Rudy and Madalena and John and Arlene Gurule and family
