Manuelita Herrera went to be with the Lord March 18, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born to Juanita(maiden name: Martinez) and Juan Tafoya on April 4, 1934, in Lumberton, New Mexico. She was loved by her husband, Orlando Herrera; children, Patricia (Jerome) Woolard, Carmen (Dave) Romero, Leola (Mike) Urback, Robert (Nicky) Esser; along with five grandchildren and four wonderful great-grandchildren; brother, Aberino (Cloudina) Tafoya; numerous nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; friends and extended family. Manuelita enjoyed her rose garden, fishing and most of all her family. Her independent spirit and strength helped her tackle any project that came her way. She will lie in state at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. The Rosary and Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady Of The Assumption Church, 900 E. Routt. Recitation of the Rosary, 6 p.m. Wednesday and Memorial Mass 10 a.m. Thursday, with Reverend Father Ben Bacino as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery Garden Columbarium. In lieu of food and flowers, memorials may be made to St. Leander Church or Sangre de Cristo Hospice.
