Lydia Mae Mendoza Maes, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 15, 2013, after passing peacefully at the Joni Fair Hospice House in Pueblo, Colo. Born on Feb. 14, 1943, she had just turned 70 on Valentine's Day. Lydia was one of eight children born to Elias and Ascension Mendoza of Trinidad, Colo. where she attended classes at Trinidad State Junior College and met her husband of 44 years, Richard (Robert) Maes. The couple wed on April 12, 1969, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Trinidad, Colo. She raised her family in Walsenburg, Colo., where she enjoyed a 17 year career with San Isabel Electric Association. Lydia enjoyed cooking her famous enchiladas, Bible study, and old Western movies. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Pueblo, Colo., to be near their grandchildren. Lydia is survived by her husband, Richard Maes; children, Rick and Stacy Maes, Michael and Sherry Maes, and Joni Maes, all of Pueblo, and Daniel Maes of Denver. Her seven grandchildren brought her much joy. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Isabella, Marisa, Charlize, Marcus, Mason, Mikey, and Morgan. She is also survived by siblings, Gloria Gonzales, Patricia Martinez, Katherine Sanchez, Linda Mendoza and Elias Mendoza, all of Denver. There will be no viewing. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. Rosary, 6 p.m. Tuesday and memorial Mass, 10 a.m. Wednesday, both at Holy Family Church, 2827 Lakeview Ave. Interment, Imperial Memorial Gardens.
