Born in: Maryville, MO
Resided in: Pueblo, CO

Louis Dale “Lou” Lehmer, 86, passed away at home in Pueblo, Colo., on July 11, 2023. Lou is survived by his wife of 66 years Barbara (Barb); son Jim (Leslie) Lehmer; grandchildren Meghann (Jeremy) McLeroy, Morgann Lehmer, Erin, Mel, and Gloria Anderson, great grandchildren Ryan, Lindsay, Logan, and Hannah McLeroy; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Louis A. and Eula W. Lehmer; in-laws Ralph E. and Ruth E. Price; and siblings Fran, Dee, Jerry, Virginia, Tom, Rita, Gwen, Glen, Linda, Alberta, and Roy. Also, sister-in-law, Edith, and brother-in-law, Harold.

Lou was born on a farm outside Maryville, Missouri, on June 26, 1937. Lou and Barb (Price) were married in Winterset, Iowa, on July 10, 1957, and they moved to Indianola, Iowa. In 1960 their son James (Jim) Lehmer was born. In 1968 they moved to Boulder, Colorado, and lived there until 1978, when they moved to Mountain View and then Columbia, Missouri. In 1991 Lou and Barb moved to Boonville, Missouri, and in 1998 they moved to Waco, Texas. In 2006 they moved to Jefferson City, Missouri, and then in 2017, they changed scenery again to St. James, Missouri. In 2022, Lou and Barb decided to follow their son Jim back out west and landed in Pueblo, Colorado.

Lou worked in the automotive industry his whole life and likely knew you by the year, make, and model of the car you drove more than your name. He loved helping people and often expressed that care through fixing the cars of innumerable family and friends. Lou was also extremely handy and was constantly building and fixing things around the house and garden.

Lou enjoyed telling stories of his childhood and experiences and could be counted on for a funny observation. He loved Barb’s cooking, reading, music, gardening, bike riding, golf, traveling, and visiting with friends and family. He was a member of the Ozark Highlands Christian Church in Rolla, Missouri.

A private family memorial service will be held at a date yet to be determined. Donations may be sent to a no-kill animal shelter of your choice.

Thanks to everyone who cared for Lou from Sangre de Cristo Hospice in Pueblo.

Guestbook

  1. Uncle Lou and my dad, Harold Price, were brothers-in-law who became brothers. They spent 50+ years telling each other jokes, old stories, and tall tales to make each other and everyone else laugh. I like to think Dad was waiting for Uncle Lou with a cooler of that awful beer they drank together. Heaven is a little louder now.

  2. I so enjoyed Lou’s n my connection on Facebook via his sister Linda. What a funny sweet intelligent man . I will miss him.

  3. There is going to be an unfillable void in the Lehmer relatives now that Lou has passed. He was 10 years older than me growing up but we had great times with his sisters, Gwen, Alberta and Linda who were more my age. He was such a progressive thinker and a kind and helpful soul. I will miss his cartoons, jokes and remarks on Facebook. RIP dear cousin.
