Laura J. Gavoto (“Auntie”), 100, passed away October 18, 2023. She was born to Grace and Constantino Gavoto on September 7, 1923, in Pueblo, Colorado, and was a proud lifelong resident. Laura is preceded in death by her sister (Estelle Minatta), brother (Donald Gavato), and many special friends and family. She is survived by her nephews, Louis Minatta (Stephanie), Donald Gavato II, Daniel Gavato (Debby), Michael Minatta (Michelle), and David Gavato (Sylvia); and several grand nieces and nephews, cousins (Mickey) and friends. Laura graduated from Central High School in 1942 and was a very proud Wildcat. She had a successful career as a secretary and administrative assistant with the Local Ironworkers Union. Laura had a passion for sports and loved watching the Broncos and Rockies. She played softball, and volleyball, and bowled in several leagues, but her favorite sport, by far, was golf, and many of her best times were on the course. Laura traveled, including several overseas trips, and said that was the best decision of her life. Finally, she loved word puzzles, playing board games, talking politics, listening to music, pictures of Mr. Leo, and telling stories about the old neighborhood, FDR, elections, and the many other significant historical events that she witnessed. She lived a very long and fruitful life, had a significant impact on many of those around her, and will be dearly missed.
