Katheryne Elaine (Summey) McPhail passed away in her home with her loving husband by her side on July 30, 2015, in Pueblo, Colo. Katie was born in Tulsa, Okla. in 1945 to her parents, Glenn and Ethel Summey. She married John McPhail in 1969. They lived in Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado, finally settling in Pueblo where they have resided since 1985. She entered the nursing field as a nurse's aide at fourteen, she went on to earn her LPN in 1971 then earned her RN in 1981. She worked in various nursing fields, though her favorite by far was geriatric nursing. Katie cared for people beyond nursing; she would send out cards to friends and family every year without fail and would be the first to bring food and comfort to families in need, when they suffered illness or loss. She enjoyed genealogy, researching both her and her husband's family back many generations. Her joy was helping others research their families. In recent years, she began working with adoptees to find their birth parents. Katie is survived by her husband, John; her son, David (Willow) McPhail of Colorado Springs, and her daughter, Annette (RJ) Hawthorne of Canyon Texas. She was affectionately known as 'Nana' to three grandbabies, Morgan (Jim) Miles, Jarad Hawthorne and Jackson McPhail; and five great-grandbabies, Emma, James, Brayden, Bella and MacKenzie. She is also survived by her mother, Ethel of Enid, Okla. and two sisters, Carolyn (Larry) West of Longview, Texas and Glenda (Jerry) Dart of Wichita, Kan. She is preceded in death by her father, Glenn. Per her wishes, Katie will be cremated in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to the American Cancer Society, 1445 N. Union Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80909 or to the Mayo Clinic, 13400 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, Ariz. 85259 Online condolences, www.montgomerysteward.com
