John T. Brelsford, 83, passed away Feb. 14, 2013, following a lengthy illness. Born in Dines, Wyo., on Sept. 15, 1929, to John and Emma Brelsford. Preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, June Smith. Survived by his wife, Kay; daughter, Cynthia D. Smith; sons, Michael J. (JoDee) Brelsford and Max F. Ewing; grandchildren, Erin McAuliffe, Desiree (Dean Jacquez) Madril, J.D. McAuliffe; great-granddaughter, Dejah Jacquez; nephew, Rob Smith; and niece, Nancy Hansen. He graduated from Trinidad High School in 1948, and joined the U.S. Navy as a Fire Controlman. After the Navy, he worked for Mountain Bell, retiring in 1987. He also worked for Alamosa County as the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. John served as Assistant Chief on the Alamosa Fire Department, and was PER of Alamosa Lodge No. 1097 BPOE. He was the recipient of the Vail Medal of Honor. He loved hunting, fishing, carpentry, and being outdoors. At his request, cremation with no service. I have lost track of you through the years but the name Brelsford rang a bell when I first read it. I am sorry for your loss and pray that your faith in God will ease your pain. I am still in Blanca in the summer so maybe our paths will cross again sometime.
