John J. 'Jack' Filby, 83, of Westcliffe, Colorado, passed away December 27, 2003, in Pueblo, Colorado. Survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary P. Filby of the family home in Westcliffe; children, Sharon (Dennis) Filby-Pike of Herndon, Virginia, Marion Filby-Higgins of Frederick, Virginia, Peggy (William) Filby-Mercanti of Bowie, Maryland, and Michael Filby of Denver; siblings, Doris, Virginia, Helen, Pat and Joan; and 6 grandchildren. Jack was born April 4, 1920, in Brooklyn, New York, to John Jacob and May Filby. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a ship builder for 30 years for the U.S. Navy. In 1970, Jack and Mary Patricia were married in Queens, New York. Jack was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Church, in Westcliffe, and served as president of the Blumenau Homeowners Association. As per his request, there will be no viewing. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. A private family service will be held at a later date. Those who desire may make memorials to Our Lady of Assumption, 109 S. 5th St., Westcliffe, CO 81252.
