James A. Houghton, 97, passed away Dec. 10, 2011. Survived by his loving wife, Lila Mae Houghton; children, George (Rose) Houghton, Jean (Ted) Noutko and Doug (Mary Lou) Houghton; stepsons, Bill (Margaret) Davis, Dale (Rose Mary) Davis and Tim (Joyce) Davis; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Bessie Houghton; sister, Marie Varney; brothers, John and Fred Houghton; and grandson, Jimmy Houghton. James was born June 8, 1914, in South Bend, Ind. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and B.P.O. Elks both in Walsenburg. He loved his work as a rancher in Huerfano County and most of all, he loved his family. At his request there will be no viewing. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. Memorial service, 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel with the Rev. John Stroh officiating. A lunch and reception will follow in the Montgomery & Steward reception hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sangre de Cristo Hospice through Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors, 1317 N. Main St., Pueblo, CO 81003.
