Harlie Taylor Barickman, 9, born Jan. 8, 2004, was taken too soon on March 10, 2013. Harlie was a 3rd grader at Rye Elementary School where her favorite times of day were math, learning cursive, and recess. She loved playing outside in the mountains, feeding her pet fox, singing too loudly, riding ATVs, and playing with her dog and best friend, Oakley, and her American Girl doll, Holly. What she loved most was bringing her entire family together to celebrate holidays. Harlie, the glue that holds her family together, will be remembered for her free spirit and spunk. She is survived by her loving parents, Kimberley and Kim Barickman; grandmother, Joyce Smith; grandfather, Ken Shollenbarger; siblings, Brooke (Jason) Flower, Brittney Barickman, Ruby Barickman, Kolby Burkhardt, and Casey Burkhardt; aunts and uncles: Kevin (Joan) Barickman, Lora (Lloyd) Brown, Todd (Adina) Shollenbarger, Helen (Ron) Eller; cousins, Bailey Brown, Connor Barickman, Jessica Eller, Jared Eller; the Donato and Wilson families; and numerous friends. Service, 1 p.m. Friday, March 15, Family Worship Center, 3800 Parker Blvd, Pueblo, CO. Reception to follow. Private family interment, Brookside Cemetery, Rye. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Rye Elementary School, 8120 Hwy. 165 West, Rye, CO 81069, for an outdoor project in Harlie's honor. I came here to see what harlie used ro look like cause its been so long. Im now 13 and i remember when i went to school with her. At recess her friends would run up to me, ” Chase Harlie likes you” and i would just shrug it off like it meant nothing. But now that i read her story again im now in tears and wish i could see her one last time.

All I heard about when Chase was in kindergarten was how this little girl named Harlie was in love with him. Then last year, the tables turned and he was in love with her. I wish they had had a chance to see how that played out in the future. I only met her a few times, but she will forever have a place in my memory and heart as my son’s first crush. May she live on and brighten our days in our memories. Our heartfelt condolences to all who were close to her.

Our hearts are breaking for you. We can’t understand why this happened; all we can do is pray for you. Romans 8:26 says “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
You are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. Monday morning everyone – over 100 people – at Sangre de Cristo Hospice connected throughout Southern Colorado and Raton, New Mexico in person or via a phone conference and said a prayer with easing your sorrow as our focus. Kim, you have given so much to us in the past year. You are always there when we have needed anything. We treasure you and Kimberley and will surround you with all the love and compassion that we have to give as will all those who love you. We will continue to keep you in our prayers.
