Gertrude A. Dennison, 96, passed away Jan. 2, 2020. Survived by niece, Arlene (Ruben) Manzanares; great niece and nephew, Raylene (Tony) Speechley and Robert (Velvet) Serena; and great-great nieces and nephews, Kathleen and Taylor Snyder, Robert and Sylvia Serena, Cameron Serena, Allen White, Rebecca Speechley, David Speechley, Alisha Serena and John Serena. Gertrude was proud to have seen her great-great-great nieces Scarlett Snyder and Sara Serena. She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, playing games and reading with each child. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Roberta Byrnes and Mary Kurtin; and brother-in-law, Al Kurtin. Gertrude was born to Robert and Lena Maude Dennison on April 28, 1923, in Broadhead Colo. Gertrude loved learning and teaching. She graduated from Trinidad State Junior College (AADegree) and Western State Colorado University (BA. and MA degrees) She started teaching in Rugby, Delagua, Aguilar, then moving to Pueblo in 1945. She taught at Edison and Irving retiring after 40 years. Upon retiring she continued going to her organizations and doing her crosswords, sudoku, jigsaw puzzles and reading daily. Gertrude belonged to the educator sorority Alpha Delta Kappa, receiving her 60 year award. She was a lifelong Presbyterian attending Mesa Presbyterian Church then Westminster Presbyterian Church when Mesa closed. Gertrude loved history and belonged to the Pueblo County Historical Society enjoying the monthly dinners and volunteering. She was a member of the Pueblo Retired School Employees Association, becoming President for two years. She was an enthusiastic participant of Fun, Food and Friends, also known as the 3F’s. The 3F’s was a fun group of 16 to 25 ladies who enjoyed table games. From these organizations she made and continued to make many friends, who continued to visit her when she was unable to leave home. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Parkview Adult Medical Clinic and the 3rd and 4th floor nurses and staff at Parkview Hospital. Also, the in-home caring staff from Interim Health Care. Funeral service, 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, at Westminster Presbyterian Church 10 University Circle. Interment, Trinidad Masonic Cemetery North End of Nevada Trinidad, Colo. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Pueblo County Historical Society.   2. Miss Dennison was my teacher when I was in the second grade, many many years ago at Irving Elementary. She was a wonderful teacher, strict, but very kind. I learned a lot that year, and my reading, especially advanced. I have thought of her often over the years, and thought she had moved from the area. I wish I’d have looked for her more diligently, I’d have liked to visit with her
