Gary “Scotty” McClain, 77, was born on June 12, 1947, to Gerard and Jeanne McClain in Pueblo, Colo. He graduated from Pueblo South High School in 1965. After high school, Scotty was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent four years in Germany during the Vietnam War. Scotty spent most of his working years as a brakeman for the Santa Fe Railroad before retiring in 2012 from his position as a technician at Trane Commercial Systems.
He is survived by his significant other of 36 years, Marlene Sherwood; his sister, Patsy (Jack) Vanwey; nieces, Shelly (Jeff) Mentor and Kelley (Bill) Schnauffer; one great-niece, two great-nephews, one great-great-nephew, and one great-great-niece. He is also survived by Marlene’s family and many dear friends.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, in the Montgomery & Steward Funeral Chapel. The service will be livestreamed. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, in the Holly Cemetery in Holly, Colo., with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Craig Hospital Foundation, 3425 S. Scotty was a very good athlete at South HS & really a nice guy with a great attitude & sense of humor. We wrestled & ran track at South together. He always treated me with respect & fun friendship. So very sorry for his passing. Ralph Gonzalez, class of 1966
