Fred 'Coogan' Pechek, Sr., 96, born October 21, 1906, to the union of Joseph and Anna Pechek. Passed away November 6, 2002. Predeceased by his wife, 'Millie' November 24, 1981; parents; brothers, Joe, Zack. Hank, Inky, Razza, and Chip; sister, Ann Giarratano. Survived by children, Marge (Bert) Pisciotta, Fred (Dottie) Pechek,Jr., Sandy (Allan) Juno, Jacque (Welles) Geary; grandchildren, Michael (Janet) Pisciotta, Paul Pisciotta, Susan Pisciotta, Karen Pechek, Erik Juno (Michelle Montplaiser), Douglas and Todd Juno, Katelyn and Kyle Geary, Kelly Duty, Jennifer Newman; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Arlana Pisciotta, Jeffrey Odnert, Sydney and Kelsey Newman; brothers, Daniel (Mary) Pechek and Robert (Mae) Pechek; sisters, Elsie (Joseph) Chorak and Mitzi Drobnick; sisters-in-laws, Anna Pechek and Beverly Pechek; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends. Coogan was employed for 44 years by the CF&I, retiring in 1969. He played for numerous semipro baseball teams in the 1930's and 1940's. He was inducted into the Greater Pueblo Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He also participated in boxing, bowling, and golf, through the years. He will be sadly missed and forever remembered. He was a member of St. Mary Church. He will lie in state at the funeral home Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends and relatives from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2002, at Our Lady of the Meadows, 23 Starling, with the Reverend Father Roger Dorcy as celebrant. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
