Frances “Anne” Vella, 91, went home on May 25, 2023, in Pueblo, Colo. to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Anne was born on March 25, 1932, in Hawthorne, Calif., and was raised by her grandfather J.J. Rafferty who predeceases her.

She received her high school education at Sugar City High School and Central High School in Pueblo, Colo. She received additional education in secretarial and bookkeeping skills in Pueblo, Colo., Creve Coeur, Mo., and ultimately from the Parks School of Business in Denver, Colo. Anne held a variety of secretarial positions and completed her career as an Administrative Assistant at Wells Fargo Bank.

Anne is survived by her devoted “sister”, cousin, and caregiver Diane “Sarge” Rafferty; bonus sisters, Patricia Shray and Lori Rafferty; many Rafferty and Shray cousins; nephews and nieces; as well as other friends and family who cared deeply for her. Also, survived by her biological daughters, Teresa “Terri” Conatore and Christine Robertson; and a grandson, Danny Donaldson.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Church and Alice Mae Maxwell (nee Rafferty); bonus brothers, James, Gary, and Greg Rafferty; and bonus sister, Sandra Tanquary. Also, by her biological siblings, Barbara Jean Maxwell, and Harold B. Maxwell.

Anne enjoyed the company of her best friend and sister in Christ, Sarge Rafferty, her kitties Gabby, and Pitsi Pu, and her dog Wiggles. She loved traveling and went on many adventurous road trips. She enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, knitting, gardening, church activities, and reading the Word daily. It is without any single doubt that she is enjoying her new home which she had fully earned a key to.

Anne was a faithful Christian and a member of Family Worship Center, which was also her cherished family.

Special thanks to Family Worship Center and Life Care Center of Pueblo for their invaluable and longtime support and to Abode Hospice of Pueblo for their compassion and caregiving during Anne’s final journey home.

Per Anne’s wishes, there will be no services. Cremation under the direction of Montgomery & Steward Funeral Home.

  1. Frances Anne was a dear old friend! I remember being so enthralled at her piano-playing – by ear!!! We were very close friends way back in about 1948!! We have exchanged Christmas cards for the past many years and once in a while we would see each other out eating or shopping. RIP Anne
