Father J. Robert 'Bob' Carden, 77, born June 6, 1931, in New York, N.Y., passed away September 17, 2008, in Pueblo, Colo. He attended St. Joseph's Seminary (Dunwoodie) in Yonkers, New York. He was ordained into the priesthood on June 1, 1957, in St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York, N.Y. Fr. Bob was a priest for the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Pueblo. He was humorous, kind, gentle, good-hearted, caring, and a true servant of the people. He had a tremendous affection for the people of Puerto Rico. Survived by many friends in New York, Colorado and Puerto Rico; also seminary classmates, especially Bishop Robert Brucato. Thanks and appreciation to: Dr. Anthony Ortegon, the staffs of Parkview Episcopal Medical Center, Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care, and Pavilion at Villa Pueblo. Fr. Bob will lie in state from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Vigil service, 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, and funeral Mass, 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, both services at St. Joseph Church, 1145 S. Aspen Rd., with The Most Reverend Arthur N. Tafoya and The Most Reverend Robert A. Brucajo, Retired Bishop of New York, as concelebrants. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Those who desire may make memorials to a charity of donor's choice through Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors, 1317 N. Main St., Pueblo, Colo. 81003. Its been 10 years since you’ve been gone and I can still hear your voice, You were such a powerful influance in my life, I am so greatfull to have known you and thank God everyday for the blessing that was YOU. You had faith in me when no one else did, and knowing you helped me to be a better person, I can only hope to ever become even half the man you were. I look forward to the day when we meet again, but until then I’m comforted forever knowing you are up above watching over me, cheering me on, sending me strength, and giving me a laugh.

  2. Your homilies at mass were so inspirational, and a pleasure to hear. We all loved you, and we have never forgotten our beloved priest. I remember during my days at school when we went to confession; there was always a long wait for you, because everyone wanted Fr. Carden. You are in my prayers. May God Bless You Always.

  3. Every day we thanked God for allowing us to know and share a part of our lives with our dearest Fr. Carden. We loved him dearly for making our lives easier and happier here in the South Bronx. May he rest in peace.
