Evelyn Lucille Miller, 89, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at Sharmar Village, in Pueblo, Colo., after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Evelyn was born to Mary Anna Hayworth Doran and Charles Arthur Doran on July 11, 1920, in Canon City, Colo. She was predeceased by parents; husband of 71 years, John Jeter Miller Jr.; and grandson, Tim Miller. She is survived by son, George (Theresa) Miller of Sanford, NC; daughter, Elaine (Gary) Goodwin of Alamosa; grandchildren, Cheryl (Rob) Phillips, Leeann Miller (widow of Tim Miller), Gaylene Horning and Greg Goodwin; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Garrett Horning, Vickie Phillips, Judd, Nash and Petra Miller; and brother, Wilbur (Aline) Doran. Evelyn grew up in Cripple Creek, Colo., where she met and married her husband. The couple moved to Pueblo in 1941. Evelyn was a homemaker who loved to garden, cook, camp and fish. For years she sewed for others making wedding gowns, draperies and doing alterations. She also was one of the first female amateur radio operators in Pueblo and was a member of the Pueblo Ham Club. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She spent her last good years researching family genealogy. Memorial service, 10 a.m. Friday, Jan 22, 2010, at Montgomery & Steward Funeral Home Chapel. Our hearts are so saddened by your great loss. Your mother was such an inspiration to all she met. I remember when we pastored at Park Hill and each Sunday morning she and your daddy would come into church and sit on their favorite pew…right in the middle section and about 4 or 5 rows from the back. Always a smile on their faces and a big hug for you. We loved them so very much and our love goes out to you and your precious family at this time.
