Eunice Allegra Phelps, 92, passed away Feb. 15, 2010. Survived by her children, Gerry Phelps, Joyce McElvane, Larry (Linda) Phelps and Stanley (Leslyn) Phelps; siblings, Leo (Joyce) Woodruff and Rose Shelley; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, F.F. 'Cotty' Phelps. Eunice was born April 19, 1917, in Lyons, Neb. to Bert and Elsie Woodruff. She, with the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Cotty, farmed and ranched in Pinon, Colo. for 27 years. They then moved to Wyoming where they owned and operated the Black Watch Ranch and ultimately ended their career in ranching by fulfilling their dream of owning the famous Pitch Fork Ranch in Idaho. Eunice possessed a selfless quality that is all but gone today... 'the spirit and love of the west.' She wore a coat of many colors. Though content living on a ranch away from the city lights, her quick wit and sense of humor along with girlish charm endeared her to all she knew and met. The foundation of her life was built on the solid ground of faith and integrity. She was our rock. As she departs this world, emptiness surrounds us - yet we rejoice in knowing she is home - home where she belongs. She was a member of Northside Christian Church, Pinon Arts and Crafts Club and Rebecca Lodge in Monte Vista. There will be no viewing. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward. Memorial service, 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel with Pastor Neill Snyder officiating. Those who desire may make memorials to Sangre de Cristo Hospice through Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors, 1317 N. Main St., Pueblo, CO 81003. Online condolences, MontgomerySteward.com
