E. Eugene Alley “Gene,” 85, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 10 2023 in Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, CO. He was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Pueblo, CO, to James Edgar and Mary Agnes (Vadnal) Alley who predeceased him, as well as his sister, Shirley (Allen) Farris and his little princess, Squirt. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; 3 children, Jim Alley of MA, Sandra Durham of Meeker, OK, and Michael (Carroll) Alley of CO. Springs, CO; and 4 stepchildren, Gary (Mary) Hodges of Deer Park, TX, Mike Russell and Jeanie (Scott) Blackwood, both of CA, and Rob (Jody) Russell of CO Springs, CO; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 5 adopted great-grandchildren, several cousins, and many dear friends.

He retired from the CF&I as an exceptional sheet metal worker after 42 years. He was a member of Parkhill Baptist Church and a veteran of the Navy. He loved pitching horseshoes, bowling, traveling, going to Cripple Creek and Black Hawk, visiting with his buddies at the Dog Track, getting together with family and friends, going out to eat, and playing cards. 1. My heart was truly saddened when I hear the news of Gene’s passing. My condolences and prayers go out to you Elaine and your family. Gene was a great guy; I really enjoyed being around him. We will miss you at our class lunches monthly. RIP, Gene!

  2. Heartbroken to learn about the passing of Eugene “Gene” Alley, a role model & friend to many in the game. On behalf of the Colorado Horseshoe Pitchers Association, we offer our warmest sympathies to the family.

    • Thank you, Vicki, for the kind thoughts. He really enjoyed coming to the tournaments and visiting with all his friends.

  3. Elaine, sending condolences to you and your family. It is so sad hearing about his passing. I will miss him saying to me, “hey there’s my birthday twin!” Jerry and I will greatly miss seeing him in cripple creek and at the horseshoe pits. We all enjoyed hearing him blow his whisle when he would hit a double ringer! He was such a fun and kind gentleman.

    • Thank you, Christine and Jerry for the kind words. He really enjoyed all you guys at horseshoes, too.
