Donald John Gavato, 83, passed away peacefully in his home on November 10, 2012. He was born to Grace and Constantino Gavoto on April 19, 1929, in Pueblo, Colo. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; and sons, Donald II, Dan (Debby) and Dave (Sylvia); five grandchildren, Grace, Wil, Aaron, Joey and James; sisters, Estelle Minatta, Laura Gavoto; sister-in-law, Patricia Dichard; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. After graduating from Central High School in 1947, Don worked for CF&I for 42 years. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. Don always opened his home to family and friends, enjoying the conversations and company. He will be remembered for his funny jokes and stories. He loved golf, twice scoring a hole-in-one. Don was an avid reader of western novels. He enjoyed puzzles, poker and Cripple Creek trips with his wife. He was a member of the Eagles #145 and Elks #90. He was a volunteer for the Minnequa Works and Power Credit Union Committees. Don was a Notre Dame and Yankee fan. Rosary, 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, and funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012. Both services at St. Mary's Church, 307 E. Mesa Ave. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church or Sangre de Cristo Hospice through Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors, 1317 N. Main St., Pueblo, CO 81003. Seems like everytime I was there he always had a smile on that never seemed to leave. He has left a wonderful legacy in his sons, and given me another brother, Donny.
