Daniel Diaz, 81. Sunrise, August 27, 1939, Sunset, July 1, 2021. Dan was born in Chicago, Ill. and moved to Westcliffe, Colo. where he was raised by his foster parents, Jim Harris and Susie Loafman. He graduated from Custer County Highschool then joined the U.S. Navy where he served four years active duty. He moved to Houston, Texas where he retired after 30 years from the City of Houston. After retirement, he moved back to Westcliffe, Colo.
Dan enjoyed hunting, taking trips in his RV to the lake, singing Karaoke and listening to music. George Strait was his favorite. He was an active member of the Elks #611 in Florence.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Elvira “Vera” G. Diaz; children, Debbie, Donna, Daniel, Kelli, Brenda, Jacque, Deana and Michael; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Marti Flower, Johnnie (Lawrence) Grisham, Eva (Jan) Bolden, Angie (David) Ortega, Sara Garcia and Connie (Lou) Sanchez; brother, Ernie (Olga) Diaz; longtime friends, D.D., Henry Wessel and Janet Myers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Aurelia Diaz. Dan’s wishes are to be cremated. Celebration of life, 2 to 4 p.m. April 2, 2022, at Elks Lodge 611, 131 E. Front St., Florence, Colo.  Memorial service with Navy Honors, 2:30 p.m. July 22, 2022, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas.  Online condolences, www.MontgomerySteward.com

All 4 of my children have the best childhood memories of you and Aunty and their Westclilffe trips in the summer!You was a Uncle that can never be replaced.
