Born in: El Reno, Oklahoma
Resided in: Pueblo, Colorado

Cheryl A. Hindsley departed this life on Wednesday May 13th in Pueblo, Colorado. Cheryl was born in El Reno, Oklahoma, and started her life as a military brat, traveling the world with her parents. She graduated from high school in Tokyo Japan, and then later attended the University of Oklahoma, earning her teaching degree.  While in college, she made many trips to Colorado to ski and fell in love with the natural beauty of Colorado.  After graduation, Cheryl moved to Pueblo Colorado and began her professional career teaching science and swimming at South High School. She later met Betty Williams, who convinced Cheryl to become a realtor. Thus, beginning a long and successful career in real estate. Cheryl was named Salesperson of the Year in 1989, Realtor of the Year in 2003, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

Throughout her fifty plus years of being a real estate professional, Cheryl involved herself in many community committees including Pueblo Leadership, Colorado State Fair Parade Committee chair, Junior Livestock Committee at the Colorado State Fair, and multiple real estate committees and boards. She was especially proud of the many young realtors that she mentored over the years. She championed Pueblo like no other, and loved to take visitors to the Sangre de Cristo Art Center, the Pueblo Reservoir and Riverwalk, the Raptor Center, and was a great ambassador for all things Southern Colorado.

Although real estate was her love, her absolute passion was animals. She was an early supporter of Paws for Life, and dedicated her energy, passion, and skills to help Paws for Life become a special part of Pueblo as a no-kill shelter. Cheryl dedicated her free time helping with fundraising, the annual golf tournament, the plant sales, and spent countless weekends introducing shelter animals to the public for adoption. Cheryl was instrumental in helping to raise necessary capital investment for the expansion of Paws infrastructure. Cheryl proudly served as a legacy board member for many years, and her leadership will be sorely missed. In her lifetime, Cheryl owned many rescue horses, birds, and countless dogs that she provided with incredible love and devotion.

Cheryl is survived by her son, Jerry Mize (Shelly) of Arkansas; grandson, Garrett (Leah) Mize of Texas; granddaughter, Brailey (Matdey) Mize of Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Emory and Breck of Texas, fur babies, Ginger, Riley, and Max, and countless other friends and wagging tails in Pueblo, Southern Colorado, and around the country.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Colonel John A. Hindsley, and Georgann Hindsley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paws for Life in Cheryl’s name. Per Cheryl’s request, there will not be a memorial service. Online condolences, www.MontgomerySteward.com

  1. Donna and I were introduced to Cheryl by my mother when they worked at the South High pool. After setting up our first home purchase, Cheryl became our go to realtor. More importantly she became a life long friend. Cheryl will be remembered and loved for time eternal.

  2. I got to know Cheryl through Fair Ladies and 4H. She was a great supporter of kids and animals. Always positive with a smile on her face. A neat lady, who will be dearly missed.

  3. CandleImageCheryl and I became friends through the Colorado State Fair many Many years ago. We worked together decorating tables for the Livestock Sale and Cheryl was a runner for the sale and I clerked the sale for many years. Cheryl then introduced me to her horse buggy that she showed her horse and won many awards. We then became a advocate for Paws for Life working at the shelter doing many things – laundry, cleaning the upstairs setting up the vet area when we had a vet, washing dog bowls,m but most of all loving all the fur babies at the shelter. We served on Paws board together for several years working the golf tournament where Cheryl was always sitting at the 3rd hole waiting for a hole in one We worked together at the plant sale and various other fundraising events. We were always at Pueblo County Commissioners Meeting and City Council Meetings supporting Paws. I will miss her terribly as when she first saw you or talked to you on the phone, she always said “Hello Darlin” in her special way. Love and <Miss you so much. PIP Carol

  4. Cheryl was our realtor for several years as we searched for our forever home in Pueblo. When it became clear that we definitely had to move, Cheryl spent an entire weekend with us searching for our home. Once we found it and made our plans to move, Cheryl went above and beyond to make sure everything was ready for us I still have the house warming gift she gave us, Our friendship continued for many years as we would have lunch or dinner together. We had not seen her in a few years, and we are both saddened that Cheryl is gone. We are blessed to have had Cheryl in our lives

  7. CandleImageMom, its hard to believe the last time we spoke would be the last time, forever. My heart aches as does your grandkids, many friends and a lot of fur babies. Over time, we’ll all be OK and knowing you are now OK, gives us comfort. How do we closeout this chapter in our lives? All I know to say is, Thank You, for everything and we Love You, more than you know!
Thank you to everyone for the condolences. The family really enjoys the personal experiences you shared with Mom. We read every one and would love to hear more, if you have them.

  8. CandleImageCheryl was the first person I met when I moved to Pueblo in 1996. She helped me with the purchase of my home at a time when houses were scarce because of an influx of people coming to work for a new HMO business. She also helped me meet new friends who could help my partner get a business started. She always had such a positive attitude and will continue to be a positive energy of the universe!

  9. CandleImageCheryl was such a special person. We met Cheryl when we started our house journey over 40 years ago. When we bought our second home, we became her neighbor. We loved being able to go down and spend time with her and she was part of our family as our children grew up. She became more than our families realtor but she was our good friend. You will be sadley missed! Peace and Love my friend

  13. Cheryl ,
This one hurts. I am glad you’re not on pain and you’re free to run the fields with the animals. We had so much fun being each other’s plus 1 for weddings and Funerals. When I eat fried pickles I will smile and think of you. Rest easy.
