Cecilia “Ceil” Anne Whybrew
March 6, 1938 – June 20, 2026

Cecilia “Ceil” Anne Whybrew, 88, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, to join her beloved husband, Edward Whybrew; her son, Joseph Whybrew; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Eugene Whybrew; her parents, Ginevieve and James Vessely; son-in-law, Kirk McAlister; and numerous other cherished family members and friends who went before her.

Ceil was born in LaPorte, Indiana, on March 6, 1938. A woman of unshakable faith, she was a devout and faithful Catholic throughout her entire life.

Ceil dedicated her life to the care of others as a Registered Nurse. She spent her career serving her community at St. Mary Corwin Hospital. Even after retirement, her passion for nursing never waned; she generously volunteered her time and medical expertise at local senior living complexes, helping residents manage their health and navigate their golden years.

Known for her enormous heart, Ceil had a famous habit of taking in “strays”—whether they were animals in need or people looking for a place to belong. At Ceil and Ed’s home, absolutely everyone was welcome, and no one ever left hungry.

Ceil was always on the go and embraced life with vibrant energy. She shared her gift of music as a longtime member of the Pueblo Choral Society. For years, she loved doing water aerobics at the YWCA with her beloved group, the “Penguins,” and when the pool closed, she simply pivoted, bringing her dedication and enthusiasm to the practice of Tai Chi.

Her profound love of life, huge heart, beautiful smile, and boundless kindness will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, and most especially by her family.

She is survived by her loving children: David Whybrew and Eric Austin, Anne McAlister, and Adam and Carla Whybrew. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jeana McAlister, Erica and Gilbert Smith, Kirk (“Rerun”) and Brittny McAlister, and Niko Whybrew; her great-grandchildren: Jaelynn, Joseph, Isabella, Benjamin, Ethan, Michael, Kalem, and Brayden; and her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Mary Ann Vessely, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial Mass, 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 307 E. Mesa. To honor Ceil’s wishes, please wear casual, bright colored attire. Ceil requested for no one to wear black to her services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pueblo Choral Society, P.O. Box 3780, Pueblo, CO 81005.

Blessed Journey, Mom. We love you.
