Service for Pastor Bobby J. Wilson:

Video Tribute for Pastor Bobby J. Wilson:

Rev. Bobby J. Wilson, age 80, went to his eternal reward and heard the words “Well done thou good and faithful servant” on December 18, 2020.  He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alvena Wilson, his children Michael and Cindy Wilson, Janella and Chris Sandoval, Darron and Jeanette Wilson, grandchildren Megan Wilson and Adam Gargala, Dane Wilson, Britney Hankins Martin and Marty Martin, Chad and Jennifer Hankins, Lauren Sandoval, Kirklan Wilson, Brendan Wilson and Halie Lane, sisters Joyce Tacker and Frances Long and brother Larry and Barbara Wilson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.   He loved us all and made sure we knew it, especially these last few months.  We will treasure the words “I want you to know I love you very much!”  He was undoubtedly greeted by a host of friends and family who had gone before him including his parents William and Maude Wilson, his sisters Betty Slaugher and Bonnie Beal and his brother Billy Wilson as well as his beloved Aunt Hattie Smith.  He came into this world in very humble beginnings in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, on September 22, 1940.  As a young man he followed the harvest and worked the fields with his family.  He graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in 1961 with a Bachelor’s degree in ministerial studies.  He and Alvena dedicated their lives to serving others in ministry.  He was the Pastor at Praise Assembly of God Church for 45 years, where he served with love and taught others to love people and serve God.  He was well known at both Pueblo hospitals, all nursing homes, etc. as he would not let his congregation members feel alone in their time of need. He would show up with a kind word and prayers for healing.  He was instrumental in starting the Cooperative Care Center to help the homeless and those who found themselves in difficult situations.  He was often recognized for his service to the Pueblo community and would respond with humility and kindness.  He taught us so much, our hearts are filled with gratitude.  He loved to share his favorite scripture: “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble and he knows those who trust in him.” Nahum 1:7. He also loved to encourage all with his favorite “poem” Plod On……  We would like to thank Sangre De Cristo Community Care for their amazing service to our family.  Private services will be held Tuesday, December 22, at 3:30 p.m. and will be streamed live at https://www.montgomerysteward.com/obits/bobby-j-wilson/.  In lieu of flowers, please show an act of kindness in his memory.  Donations may be made to the Bobby and Alvena Wilson Scholarship at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, 1200 Sycamore St. Waxahatchie, TX 75165. 1. Darron and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. 🙏🙏
    Deanna Strait

  2. I remember living next door to this wonderful family 50 years ago. Bobby always had prayer and devotional time with his children in the morning before school. Sometimes the neighborhood kids were included. Over the years I would run into the Wilson’s at Pueblo events. They always remembered my family and asked how my parents were doing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  3. Dear Wilson Family,
Sending you all our deepest condolences and praying for God’s peace, comfort and love over your whole family in this time of loss. Pastor Bobby Wilson was such a blessing to so many people, and I will never forget the positive impact that he had on me and in turn my own family, as well as the people I come into contact with each day. I loved hearing him preach and always left with a deeper understanding of God’s message. I loved how he would be preaching and then just start singing a hymn with just the right connection to the message. He knew how to connect people’s hearts together and lead them to God’s saving grace. I also appreciated the friendship that he and my dad had. We are all blessed to have known and learned from him!

  4. We just seen this today and our heart was broken. We loved him so much as he taught us a lot when we lived in Pueblo. Our love goes out to the family the service was beautiful, God Bless you all.

  5. Remembering all the wonderful years we had living across the street. Watching the kids grow up and sharing the Friendship. Bobby will be Truly missed. Our Prayers go out to the Family. Memories live on forever in our Hearts.
    Gail and Art Brady

  6. I will always remember Pastor Wilson having a profound Love in his eyes.

Pastor Wilson walked in the Love of God and shared that Love with all he came across.

I cherish the memories at Park Hill Assembly as a youth and being baptized there. What a wonderful Pastor to be taught by, learning the narrow road that leads to life.

Pastor Wilson, say Hello to Grandma Shirley Warren, she will be Happy to see you.

What a Blessing to have such a great Husband and Dad on earth. Hugs and Love to Alvena and this Wonderful Family.

Beyond appreciative for Pastor Wilson being such a Mighty Servant for our Lord and the people he served.

Thank You to Pastor Wilson and Darron for always being there for our family, especially in the difficult times of saying goodbye to family members.

🎵🎶 When we All get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the Victory!!🎶🎵

I Can Only Imagine Pastor Wilson there now…

Until we get to go Home, “Plod On, Plod On, Plod On!!!”

    💖🕊💖

  7. I have many good memories of our years at Parkhill and Praise.
May the Lord surround you and uphold you Alvena.
    Loretta Sauer

  8. Thank you Lord for this man that brought the Love of Christ into our families lives. Greatful for him following his calling. Praying for comfort and the lords love to surround the Wilson family. Know that you are lifted up in prayer.

  9. Alvena and family, We’re so sorry for your loss. Heaven has gained a faithful follower of Jesus! Pastor Wilson touched more lives than can be counted and we are blessed to have been among them. May God give you peace in your quiet times. With our love and prayers. Roger and Kathy Samuels

  10. A huge loss to the community but he also left an indelible mark on his city, across the country, and at his church -Pastor Bobby Wilson served as pastor, preacher and man of gentleness and compassion for people. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing (so timely at Christmas time). He is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus. My memories of his powerful sermons and his gentle counseling have stayed with me, and have helped me to serve others too. My prayers for Alvena, Mick, Darron and Janella, and his precious grandchildren and his many friends. You will be greatly missed, Pastor Wilson. A true giant in the kingdom.

  11. Bobby Wilson touched many lives for Christ in all his action of love. We never regularly attended praise assembly, we went else where, but our granddaughters went to their wonderful children’s day care. We took our grandson the night Meadowlark Lemon was there. Our grandson was only about 7. He wanted to meet him and Pastor Wilson, whom we knew personally came to talk with us after the service, and we told him our grandson wanted to meet Meadowlark, so Pastor Wilson ask him to come and Meadowlark talked with Our grandson and he led him to the Lord. Pastor Wilson was a warm, loving, caring person and everybody loved loved him whether they went to the church or not.
Working in a nursing home I saw him come to visit and pray. He was a good and faithful servant of our Lord and Savior. We are blessed to have him touch our lives for Christ.

    he was talking

  12. Condolences to the Wilson family on pastor Bobby’s walk into Glory. He and Alvina have been a great help to our family and great comfort to us when our parents passed, Thank you and God bless you all.

  13. Today my Pastor, Bobby Wilson was laid to rest, to “sleep with his fathers”. His family said goodbye on Fri the 18th and today this human physical act of “interment” will separate them from his physical body till the return of Christ and the resurrection.

Oh yes, Pastor Bobby is with the Lord, worshipping, alive…. So many descriptions of him now in glory have been posted already by those who loved and knew him better than I did. So many precious thoughts from everyone, of his now animated, resurrected new body and how he might be reacting his first days in heaven.

But then we here on earth miss him and must learn a new life without them, our loved ones in Christ. Yes, for those of us who know Christ, there IS a difference in how we grieve, ….. a hope, a confidence of being with Christ and a reunion with our loved ones in Christ. Yet, as I have experienced from the loss of my precious Paul, we, still “here of earth”, are left without them. Yes, there is an aching sorrow of parting, but we as believers have the promise of a sweet reunion again.

If we are honest though, even for believers, there is another pain that comes at the beginning of their departure to glory. This pain for me felt so comparable to the scenes written about from the hospitals in the wars of the long past. The doctors shadowed figure behind the curtain as the aids hold down the wounded soldier as they amputate a limb without medication. Our earthly selves, those of us who have been left without them, now feel a sense of being amputated while awake. Amputated from our other half we have been joined to, as a spouse or as their child who has known them all their life.

My empathic heart intercedes in prayer tonight for Pastor Bobby’s precious wife Alvena and his amazing children Mick, Janella and Darron. Those of us who have walked this road of losing a spouse or a parent will be praying even as they are being held now and carried by the comfort of the Holy Spirit. This same Spirit will walk with them as they journey through so many emotions in the months to come, and we will be praying as they do. Yet my heart hurts for Alvena and all the wives who now belong to this exclusive club that nobody wants to join, as widows. But we will come alongside as she needs us, because of the comfort we have received from the God of all Comfort. 2 Cor 1:3,4

Our precious Wilson family AND all the extended family have lived this life with our amazing pastor who gave himself for us, his parishioners, many times as pastors hearts tend to do – at their precious family’s expense…. Yet they allowed us to be ministered to by their amazing husband, father and grandfather.

Pastor Wilson walked us all through so many of our own joyful and terrifying seasons of life. In my case, the birth of, dedication of and instruction of my only son PR….. numerous hospital calls …including my short stint, as well as visits and prayer at ALL of Paul’s surgeries, cancer and then his homegoing.

But then there was also that same shepherds’ heart as he walked alongside us all not only in the physical battles, but as we faced spiritual battles. Untold hours of his prayertime and study of God’s Word to train and lead us in righteousness, growing in grace and turning from sin and self to God. As HE followed after Christ, we followed him, and our lives were forever changed because of the message of Christ he proclaimed to us, in the power of the Holy Spirit. This message was with words given to all of us one on one at times, but most often the change in our lives came because of his sermons forged in fire. Just two I will mention here, from my many notebooks of taking notes of his sermons that changed my life forever. One still at Parkhill, A Lion Has Roared, a sermon that was such a POWERFUL call to repentance. The other one I bet many of us remember, in that first sanctuary at Praise, Does Your God Have Feathers, which was the beginning of hope and healing in me from years of battling anorexia. His life and message has, and will continue to impact countless people for eternity. I am just ONE of those.

Bobby Wilson was my pastor. I will forever be grateful to God for sending Paul and I to Parkhill Assembly of God one summer in 1978 where a larger than life, great man of God greeted us at the door and said, “Welcome to Pueblo”. And poof….., we had a home church in our new town.

Now HIS Lord, who he served faithfully all these years, says to Pastor Bobby, “Welcome to Heaven and home, my good and faithful servant Bobby. Enter into the Joy!!!!!!!

  14. When our daughter Juanita Blevins along with her husband Eric moved to Peublo with their 3 children it was Pastor Bobby and Alvina who lovingly accepted them. And had a great impact on the lives of Sam, Ben, and Sarah and their Parents were nurtured by the leadership of Pastor Wilson.

He will be remembered with much fondness.

  50. Dear Alvena and Family:
It was a blessing to get to know Bobby through the years. He was one of the kindest and most caring people I have had the pleasure of meeting, and Alvena is right up there with him in those categories.
He will be missed by all, but I guess God wanted to give Himself a Christmas present of having Bobby with him this year.
Thank you for sharing him with all.

  51. R.I.P PASTOR BOBBY TY FOR SHARING GOD’S WORD WITH US N TEACHING US ABOUT JESUS N HOW HE PAID FOR OUR SINS.U WERE THE KINDNESS MAN I HAVE EVER MEET.AMEN🙏🙏🙏 GOD BLESS US ALL.

  52. So thankful for the opportunity to meet and know Uncle Bobby. What a gracious and loving man and child of God.

  53. Words often fail to convey the same comfort as a loving hug, or shared tears at times of painful separation like this. Janice and I send our heartfelt condolences, and share your sense of loss. But we also rejoice in the comfort of the Holy Spirit who confirms what we know to be the truth; that Pastor Bobby is rejoicing in the presence of our Lord at this hour. We pray for the family and friends who are mourning to be touched with the Lord’s presence and peace.
In the years we were privileged to be ministered to by the teaching and spiritual leadership of Pastor Bobby, we came to love his powerful messages from the pulpit, as well as his unique style of Pastoral presence. He was a godly man who knew how to prepare the fieds for planting, and was instrumental in the call of the harvest. I know that we received a great gift in our spiritual walk by sitting under his ministry. Bobby Wilson was an evangelist as much as pastor, and influenced countless lives.
Although we’ve lived in many places and have enjoyed to ministry of many other pastors, none has had a greater or more lasting influence than that of Pastor Bobby Wilson.
I know he’s already been shown to his mason over the hilltop, and his encouragement to us would be familiar. Plod on, plod on, plod on.

  60. I’m so sorry for your loss. Prayers for your family. To be absent in the body is present with the Lord. Pastor Wilson was a great spiritual leader. From the time I got saved at Parkhill Assembly, I was at church hearing the word of God being preached. Such powerful messages! I will always treasure in my heart the lessons learned under his ministry. The last time I saw Pastor Wilson was when he officiated at my mother’s funeral. He came to the hospital to see us the day she passed. She was already gone when he and Alvena arrived. He prayed with us. Even though he had just retired from Praise Assembly, I asked him if he would officiate the funeral. He said, “I would be honored”. I still have his sermon notes from her funeral service on the index card he gave me. What a great man. Until we meet again Pastor. My condolences to all the Wilson family.

  61. I will be forever greatful to my Pastor who taught me and helped me in my walk with the Lord since the very beginning when I gave my life to the Lord 28 years ago. See you on the other side. ❤️

Mrs Wilson and family, we are very sorry for your loss. May God provide comfort and peace to you all. Thank you for sharing Pastor and for all you have done to support his work. He was a gift!!

He brought me out of darkness when my first wife Jane died. She loved him and Alvinna so much. We enjoyed rounds of golf together and lunch at GG’S barbecue, intact I was blessed by God and family to bring him his favorite sandwich on Thursday. We had a beatiful conversation and prayed together. He will be missed by us all and we are all so blessed to have had this great man in our lives. Love to all family. ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏

  70. Dear Alvina, We are so sad to hear of Bobby’s passing. He was a life-long friend. Before you two married, Bobby and I worked for his brother in construction in Alamogordo NM. He preached a revival meeting a few weeks before your wedding and in that meeting I was called to Africa as a missionary. At your wedding I had the privilege of being his best man.

Thought our ministries have kept us apart, he, in various times, played important roles in shaping what God had in mind for me. I am eternal grateful that both of you crossed our paths and have been dear friends. You are loved! God bless you. Warren and Annette Newberry

  71. Bobby J Wilson you will never be forgotten. You were my family’s Spiritual Leader, teacher and encourager. We are happy for you but sad for family and friends you have left behind. We would like to express condolences to Alvena and the family.

  72. We send our condolences to the entire Wilson Family. Our family started attending Praise Assembly back in the 80’s. We loved our church from the very beginning. Pastor Wilson was an Amazing man of God and we loved hearing his sermons. He married my husband, Mark and I in 1989 and our first daughter, Amanda Michelle adored him most of all. She went to Heaven in 2009 and I’m sure she jumped in his arms the second he arrived and I’m sure my daddy was not far behind.
You will be so missed, Pastor Wilson. We love you and can’t wait to meet you on the other side. Until then…..Plod on–Plod…on….and Plod on. <3
    Sending you BIG Hugs, Alvena!!

How on earth did I do that?! He had such a booming, powerful pulpit voice! I loved his dancing on stage in his excitement for the gospel. His fire for the Lord was evident. I will miss him so much. He watched and prayed and preached the truth for all the years our two girls grew up. And then he watched and prayed and preached over our grandsons until they were nearly teenagers.
