Bernadette 'Bernie' C. Harris

Bernadette Cecilia 'Bernie' Harris (nee Schmitt), 65, passed away at hospice in Walsenburg, Colo., on Sunday, July 21, 2013. Bernie is predeceased by her parents, Ed and Bernette Schmitt, and her sister, Patricia McDaniel. Bernie is survived by her loving husband, Rick of 47 years, and her two sons, Chris and Rick Jr. Bernie and Rick were married in Lawrence, Kans., on Nov. 20, 1965. Bernie is lovingly remembered by four brothers and four sisters, Dennis Schmitt, Leland Schmitt, Katherine Daniel, Roger Schmitt, Gwendolyn Schmitt, Maureen Burriss, Edward Schmitt and Jane Schmitt. Bernie was born in Friendship, Wis., on June 6, 1948. She resided in Kansas City, Kans., for over 40 years and then lived the remainder of her life in Rye, Colo. Bernie had a hearty, contagious laugh and loved to fish and spending time with her extensive family. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Montgomery & Steward Chapel, 1317 N. Main St., Pueblo. A memorial Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Holy Family Church, 274 Orchard Ave., Kansas City, Kans. Online condolences, www.montgomerysteward.com
