Words cannot express the family’s gratitude for Barbara Lou McCarthy’s life and the sorrow of losing her on June 26th, 2026. Barbara lived for 86 years and left an abundance of wonderful memories that touched many hearts.
Barbara Lou McCarthy was born to the late Patrick Joseph and Mary McCarthy, a dairy farmer/ entrepreneur and a homemaker, in Vineland, CO on April 27,1940. Barbara’s Catholic faith always served as an anchor during the good and the bad, often telling loved ones, “Give it up to God and stop worrying.” During Barbara’s early years adventure and wonder consumed. Often exploring the open land that surrounded her family’s dairy farm with her sisters and cousins, or spending time in the city with her beloved Mamo. Barbara was a loving Mother to her four children and worked hard to ensure the best for them, no matter what it took. Her children described her as a wonderful mother, always there for them in any of their needs and times of trial. Never expecting help from others and always moving forward in life with courage, grit and the strength to stand up for her loved ones and beliefs, characteristics that many are not blessed to hold. With the strength of a warrior Barbara brought a sense of protection to her children and grandchildren no matter the circumstance. She was also known for her caring, nurturing, compassionate heart that lent a helping hand no matter the hour. A lover of all animals, true crime, and music ranging from Oldies to Jimmy Hendrix, her heart was full of love, which she poured out to those close to her. A relentless soul full of fire that never gave up, which contributed to her professional achievement of managing large apartment complexes.
Barbara was a remarkable soul who graced our lives with strength, security, shelter, support, love, and most importantly selflessness. Barbara’s presence will be greatly missed and loved forever. Barbara may have passed, but her love and strength live on in each and everyone who cherishes her.
Barbara is survived by her loving children: Tammy (Curt) Bartell; Rick (Debbie) Pryor; Brenda Pryor. Ten grandchildren: Jamie (Jamie), Dana, Holly, Cherie, Nick (Mel), Krista, Curtis (Danielle), Ashley (Zach), Brooke, and Ali. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Devin (Cathy), Sean, Aiden, Lyla, Emma, Lance, Asher, and Althea; and one great-great-grandchild: Lawson.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Patrick Joseph; brother, Patrick Joseph III; sisters, Gloria and Patty; son, James Robert; and many beloved horses, dogs, and cats.
