Aretta (Merrill) Smith, 100, born March 27, 1914, the last surviving of 14 children, passed away April 11, 2014. She was greeted in heaven by her husband, Lonnie; son, Chuck; grandson, Wayne; great-grandson, Michael; parents, brothers, and sisters. She will be missed by her son, Hal; daughter, Patti (Dale) Rupp; grandchildren, Randy (Valerie) Shisler, Tracee (Bud) Easton; great-grandchildren, Josh (Chelsea), Rachel, Zac, Nic, Carlee, Tabyre, Mike, Tahnee; great-great-grandchildren, Payton, Ethan, Ryder; step-grandchildren, Dina (Kevin) McCarty, Debra (Mark) Moore, Marianne Tameris; step-great-grandchildren, Michelle, Isaiah, Henessy, Matthew, and Nigel. Aretta was a wonderful mother and grandmother, full of Southern hospitality with a stern heart of gold. She loved camping in the Colorado mountains, made beautiful clothing, quilts to perfection, and prided herself with decadent creations of yummy edibles for all of us. Heartfelt thanks to Sharmar Village. In her honor, memorials may be made to the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center through the funeral home. Funeral service, 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery.
