Albert Jerome 'Papa' Wright September 11, 1935, December 14, 2009 Jerry Wright was 'barned alive' in Itawamba County Alabama 74 short years ago, to Albert and Grace Wright. He served our country for 22 years in the Air Force, followed by 19 years for the state of Colorado as an adult probation officer. Jerry found the love of his life Ilene, swept her off her feet, then married her in 1986. Shortly after retirement they moved to the beautiful Greenhorn Valley. This is where papa hung his hat. This was truly home for him. The people of the valley became his extended family. We all remember him for the wonderful and funny things he did. We will always remember how much he enjoyed his tractor, and how he loved to knock over trees and hit his house with it! We remember seeing him in the dune buggy driving down the road with that classic smile! We remember the giving and the love that papa had for every person he met. Never have we seen a man so content with his life, and so appreciative of the things he was given. Thank you papa for blessing all of us with your love, life and sweet memories. Our beloved papa leaves behind his wife Ilene Wright and several children; son Jeffery Wright of Port St. Lucie, Florida, daughter Deborah Buresh of Denver, Colorado, daughter Sherry Moore (Larry) of Denver, Colorado, daughter Melanie Cox (Donald) of Colorado City, Colorado. He also leaves behind several grandchildren that he adored; Colton, Diana Sue, Charles, Jeremy, Jordan, Nathan and Jaimie. He also had several siblings and other family members throughout the country that will miss him wholeheartedly. And we cannot forget the Greenhorn Valley family, all of you who loved him and whom he loved in return. At his request, no viewing. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. Military Honors by High Frontier Honor Guard of Peterson Air Force Base, Masonic rites by Greenhorn Valley Lodge No. 196 and interment, 11:30 a.m. Sat., Dec. 19, 2009, at Colorado City Cemetery. Followed by a celebration of his life, 1:30 p.m. at Valley Community Church. Online condolences, MontgomerySteward.com

Guestbook

  1. Jerry was a joy to be around. He knew how blessed he was with wonderful family and spoke of his family often with love and gratitude. I feel privileged to have known Jerry and miss him terribly already!

  2. Jer was a true friend, a genuine person. Always cheerful and smiling and one always felt comfortable being with him and Ilene. He will always be with us in our heart. He is now a guardian angel for his family.

  3. Papa you will always be in my heart and on my mind. We have listened to many a story about our career of choice that we have both enjoyed, changing just one persons life choices is what make it all worth the effort. You were such a wonderful Role Model to so many that you touched through the years. Please rest in peace knowing that your efforts will be held in the hearts of everyone that you touched. P.S. I told them about you bringing donuts when we were not allowed to have them. They thought that was funny. “We thought they were delicious.”

    Love you PaPa Jerry

  4. We love you papa…you are forever in our hearts. We miss you so much. Thank you Bob and Judy for your wonderful loving words! Papa was a special man..who will be missed by so many…he made such an impact on this world.

  5. Jerry was like putting on your favorite pair of Levi’s. He was comfortable to be around. With Jerry you always knew who would show up. He was the same yesterday, today & tomorrow. You always left Jerry feeling like you just left a good friend. We will miss him greatly. Jerry picked Judy & I up in his dune-buggy, he had a friend with him who said he never saw a bear in the wild. Going into the park we saw a bear in a trash can. His friend was so excited I thought he was about to wet himself or maybe that was me. Anyway, since that buggy thing was open to the whole world I said to Jerry maybe we better back on out of here before we end up being his 2nd lunch. We were all crowded in that thing like sardines. Well Jerry turned right in next to that bear. Just another special day with a special guy. May God bless you & give you his peace as you share the wonderful memories of a life lived with this wonderful man.
