Alan D. 'Buck' Rice, 43, of Pueblo West, passed away unexpectedly, July 24, 2005. Survived by his wife, Sandy Rice; parents, Bob and Shirley Rice; children, Chelsea and Hunter Rice, all of Pueblo West; sister, Dona (Bob) Parker of Robertsville, Missouri; grandmother, Minnie Kerksiek of Wiggins, Colo.; numerous nieces and nephews. Buck was born January 25, 1962, in Denver. He was employed by Colorado Interstate Gas as a welder and enjoyed archery, golfing and hunting. He attended Pueblo Christian Center. Funeral service, 2 p.m. today at Pueblo Christian Center, 1605 S. Pueblo Blvd., with Pastor Gregg Slaughter officiating. Interment, 11 a.m. Thursday at Byers Cemetery in Byers, Colo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Byers Rescue, Strasburg Rescue or Pueblo Christian Center, through the funeral home. Online condolences, www.montgomerysteward.com.

    I don’t know if you remember me, but I was your first grade teacher in Byers. I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I remember you were very close to him. I can still picture you in your little camouflage jacket, telling me you liked to hunt with your dad. I also remember you were very strong-willed and determined and I hope those traits will help you get through this very difficult time in your life. I really enjoyed being your teacher in first grade. I wish I could reach out to you and give you a hug right now. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
