Adelaida Martinez, 98, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Nov. 19, 2011, in Denver. Preceded in death by her husband, Eliu Martinez; an infant son; sons, Palemon Martinez and Bernie Eliu Martinez; sons-in-law, Ephran Pando and David Gonzales; daughter-in-law, Pearl Martinez; eight brothers and sisters. Survived by her children, Aurora Pando, Lucille (Daniel) Orona, Juan Martinez, all of Pueblo, Vivian Gonzales of Colorado Springs, Olga (Charles) Trujillo, and Jose (Nancy) Martinez; daughter-in-law, Patsy Martinez, all of Denver; 32 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great grandchildren. Adelaida was born to Encarnacion and Lina Padilla on Oct. 22, 1913, in Costilla, N.M. For many years she was a member of the St. Joseph Christian Mothers, the Sociedad de Nuestra Senora del Carmen. In 2006, she was the State Fair Silver Queen; this honor brought her much joy. She will be most remembered for the quilts that she made for her family and those she loved. Viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Rosary, 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at St. Joseph Church, 1145 S. Aspen Rd., with the Rev. Fr. Ben Bacino as celebrant. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's handicap ramp fund through Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors, 1317 N.   2. Tia Lala will be missed. I remember how much my Mom (Theresa Gonzales) loved her and how much she enjoyed visiting with her. My heart goes out to her kids and family. Tia Lala was one of a kind and that made her even more beautiful.
