Adelaida Martinez

Adelaida Martinez, 98, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Nov. 19, 2011, in Denver. Preceded in death by her husband, Eliu Martinez; an infant son; sons, Palemon Martinez and Bernie Eliu Martinez; sons-in-law, Ephran Pando and David Gonzales; daughter-in-law, Pearl Martinez; eight brothers and sisters. Survived by her children, Aurora Pando, Lucille (Daniel) Orona, Juan Martinez, all of Pueblo, Vivian Gonzales of Colorado Springs, Olga (Charles) Trujillo, and Jose (Nancy) Martinez; daughter-in-law, Patsy Martinez, all of Denver; 32 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great grandchildren. Adelaida was born to Encarnacion and Lina Padilla on Oct. 22, 1913, in Costilla, N.M. For many years she was a member of the St. Joseph Christian Mothers, the Sociedad de Nuestra Senora del Carmen. In 2006, she was the State Fair Silver Queen; this honor brought her much joy. She will be most remembered for the quilts that she made for her family and those she loved. Viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Rosary, 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at St. Joseph Church, 1145 S.
