Celebration of Life:

Leora Elizabeth Adams, 105, was born on Sept. 25, 1920 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. to Pope and Hattie Garrett, the first of five children, and passed away on July 10, 2026.

The family resided in Murfreesboro until Pope Garrett moved them to Clarksville, Tenn. when Leora was a small child. They lived in Clarksville until Leora grew up and graduated high school. She attended Agricultural and Industrial State College. There she met her husband, Joseph Thomas Adams. They saw each other until he was drafted into the army during World War 2. They corresponded while he served in the army. He was wounded on Guadalcanal and was flown to Hawaii for surgery. He traveled to Tennessee when on recovery leave, where he and Leora married. She was 24 years old.

Afterwards, they traveled to California on the train where they were surprised by the end of the war in Europe. They arrived in California to live with Joe and Tiny Adams. They purchased the house on Hobart Street in Los Angeles, which was where they lived until they tore down the original house and built the one where Leora lived until she moved to Colorado when she was 86 years old.

She lived a long and beautiful life, having touched the lives of everyone she encountered.

Guestbook

  1. I only met Leora once a couple years ago having lunch with both her and Bev at Cats Pour house in Pueblo West.
As Tom mentioned once you met Leora, it was obvious where Bev got her kind, caring and loving personality.
I am so sorry for the loss of a long lived beautiful life. I am blessed to have met Bev when she moved to Colorado 45 years ago.
    RIP Mrs Adams

  2. CandleImageWhenever I think of my wonderful aunt Leora the feeling I get is warmth. Always I associate warmth, welcome, and happiness with her.
I also associate pizza with her home as my introduction came one night at her house when I was between 7 and 9 years old. I’m fairly certain it was a loaded pizza as I remember it was colorful. I hated it and afterwards turned away at any mention. It took years for me to try cheese pizza and more years to try any other topping. Picky eater that I am I hate olives, onions, peppers and love pineapple, anchovies, mushrooms on my pizza.
Your presence is missed Aunt. šŸ’”

  3. CandleImageYou were one of the most positive people I have ever met. You taught me a lot about not placing limits on your own life. You would always say, ā€œI will talk to you on my next birthday.ā€ You never said hope. Thank you for always being so kind. My prayers are with your survivors, friends, and associates.

  4. CandleImageMy sweet Aunt Leora,

Thank you for loving me exactly as I was. One of my favorite memories is being a little girl in your kitchen, pulling every pot and pan out of the cabinets while you cooked. My mom would tell me to stop, and you’d just smile and tell her to leave me alone. Looking back now, I realize that was your way of letting me be a kid and making me feel completely accepted.

I’ll always cherish our special tradition of sitting together, eating our Eskimo Pie ice cream, and looking out the living room window. It seems like such a simple memory, but those are the moments that have stayed in my heart all these years. They were some of my happiest.

You never forgot my birthdays or holidays. No matter what, you always made me feel remembered, loved, and important. That is such a rare gift, and I will always be grateful for it.

Living to 105 years is an incredible blessing, but your greatest legacy isn’t just the years you lived, it’s the love you gave so freely. Thank you for always allowing me to be me, for making me feel safe, and for filling my childhood with memories I’ll treasure forever.

I love you, Aunt Leora, and I will carry your love with me always ā¤ļø

  5. CandleImageI will never forget us having my moms repast at you and Uncle Tommies house on Hobart and you telling me that at that time you and uncle Tommy had been married for 55 years the same amount of years my mom had been on this earth! You always had stories about my mom that you would share with me! You were the sweetest person here on earth and Heaven has definitely gained another angel. Rest well Aunt LeorašŸ’œ

  6. CandleImageAunt Leora,
What a survivor. You showed us all what grace and life should be about. We love you and thank you for all the 105 years you gave us. Rest well.

  7. Leora may your laughter, love, kindness, and strength live on forever. Beverly was a God sent to me and after meeting Leora I understood where she got it from. I will remember you always!!!
