Barb was visiting her friend Barbara who lived in San Antonio Tx. Barb had arrived a day or 2 earlier and on the night of the 20th, Barb, Barbara, and Mark, her boyfriend at the time, all went out to a large new dance club that had opened. Mark had a friend that was to join them to make a foursome. I (Michael) worked at HEB grocery store up the street from the dance club. One of my female co-workers wanted to go out dancing (it was also ladies night with 50 cent drinks for the ladies) but did not want to go alone. She asked if I would go, and I agreed. I got off work later and went home but regretted agreeing because I was tired. Still, I had given my word, so I got dressed and went out to the club. As it turned out my co-worker never showed up! Being young (26) and single I decided to just stay a couple of hours and just see how many ladies I could get to dance with me. I told myself I would leave at 10 pm. Around 9:45 I was finishing my drink and getting set to leave when I spotted this beautiful girl sitting alone at a table. She looked way out of my league but I figured I would be leaving if she said no so I got up and asked her to dance. To my surprise, and also delight, she accepted and we danced not one but 3 or 4 songs. Afterword she invited me to her table. Seems Marks friend either did not show, or made a quick exit. I found her to be funny, smart, extremely pretty, and fell for her almost immediately. We talked till late in the evening and I joined them at Barbara's apartment for a final drink. I asked to see Barb again the next night and she agreed. That was the first time we met and the beginning of a relationship which lasted almost 40 years.

A Life Long Friendship I met Barb in the fall of 1977. We were both enrolled in an Art class together at Long Beach City College. We became instant friends. We loved going to restaurants, movies and dance clubs. A few months later, we took a stained glass class together at one of the local shops and would do our stained glass together over good rock music and wine. We even sold some of our work, which was so exciting for us! That summer we took our first trip to Hawaii- 10 days and 3 islands, Oahu, Maui and the big island, Hawaii. We no sooner came back that we were planning our next trip the following summer, to Maui for 7 days. We took a road trip from Long Beach to Oregon the next year. After Barb moved to Granite Falls, WA, I visited her in April of 1981. She came to visit me in San Antonio, TX in 1984 where she met her future husband, Michael while on vacation, which happily was the way I met my husband, Mark earlier that same year! Throughout the 47 years of our friendship, we always stayed in touch, sharing the good times, the not so good times and everything in between. When Barb moved to Texas for a short time, we saw each other several times, and even went on a trip to St Martinsville, LA for the weekend. My final trip was in May to see her in Colorado. We were best friends, lifelong friends, and she will always be in my heart and in my memories. Till we meet again my best friend, I will never forget you.
