Shirley Ann Schockey, 84, passed away on October 8, 2023. She was born December 12, 1938, in Monte Vista, Colo. to Thomas and Alberta Hart. She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Gary Schockey, on October 8, 1956, in Monte Vista.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lori Schockey Kehler, of Arroyo City, Texas, and Sheri (Todd) Schockey Lasher, of Pueblo West, Colo. She was a loving grandmother to five grandchildren, Samantha Taylor, Billy Taylor, Ashley Taylor, Haylee (Brad) Lasher Miller, and Jared Lasher. She is survived by her two sisters, Peggy (Larry) Schockey and Judy Wert, both of Monte Vista.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary; and her son, Thomas “Tommy” Kevin Schockey.

Shirley enjoyed anything involving family, camping, boating, motorcycle trips, picnics, football and baseball games, or any other sport her grandchildren were involved in.

Later in life she and Gary sold their homes, bought a fifth-wheel trailer, and traveled wherever their hearts desired. In 2006, she decided they needed a place to call home and found that in Colorado City, Colo.

Shirley took great pride in loving and taking care of her husband, honoring him even after his passing. She passed on the day of their 67th wedding anniversary. What a glorious reunion it must have been.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to Brookdale El Camino and the Solaris Hospice staff for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

At Shirley’s request, cremation has taken place in the Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. Online condolences at www.MontgomerySteward.com

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Lori and Sheri, some of my fondest memories were spending time at your parent’s house when we were young. Your Mom and Dad always made me feel so welcome in your home! I always thought you had the coolest parents around! The entire Shockey family always made me feel special and I will never forget that!
It is so hard to lose a parent. Enjoy all the memories of your beautiful Mom. She was a special lady!
Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers!

  2. Lori and Sheri: I am also Shirley’s cousin. My Mom, Loretta (aka Lala or Shorty) Knebel Henning was the oldest of the Knebel girls. I am Loretta’s daughter. I have seen your Mom a few times over the years and the last time was 9 years ago when 3 Iowa Cousins came to CO and we had a marvelous reunion with the CO cousins, including Pam, at Judy’s cabin. My favorite memory of your Mom was when Mom, Dad, Aunt Norma and I visited Aunt Bert and Aunt Doby when I was a teenager. I remember sitting in the front yard at your Grandparents house and all of a sudden Shirley came running out the front door to meet Gary for a date. She was so tiny and had these white shorts on and looked just adorable. Even though we are states away, we try to stay connected to our loved ones in Colorado. You are always in my prayers. My sincere sympathy to all of you.

  3. Lori and Sheri , Shirley was our cousin..our mothers were sisters ..our mother was Kathy Knebel Pogge…I’m the oldest daughter of 3 girls. Tho I haven’t seen Shirley since I was a little girl, I’ve prayed for her and will continue. I found her and Gary’s free spirit a blessing for them. Please find comfort that your relatives in Iowa will hold all of you in our thoughts and prayers ❤️🙏
