Lawrence A. Maestas, 62, passed away Feb. 26, 2005, in Pueblo, Colo. Survived by his wife of 43 years, Helen; children, Kinney (Paula) Maestas of Littleton, Colo. and Sherri (Leo) Tapia of Pueblo; numerous brothers and sisters; grandchildren, Mike Serrano, Shannon Serrano, Eric Medina, John Hinze, Candace Hinze, Nathan Galloway, David Uballe, Amanda Uballe, and Leo, Jr., Denisha and Tiffany Tapia; great-grandchildren, Maya Serrano and Mariah Tapia. Larry was born March 16, 1942, in Rocky Ford, Colo. He worked 43 years as a brick mason and helped build Invesco Field. As a great husband, father, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law and friend, he touched many lives. Larry was an ordained minister, serving a Baptist church in La Junta and was a member of Rocky Mountain Baptist Church in Pueblo. Larry was a true cowboy, loved western movies, especially John Wayne, and spending time with his grandchildren. Viewing Tuesday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Service, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel with Pastor Gordon Rogers officiating. Hi Grampa, Just wanted to say that you’ve been gone almost 1 year and I miss you alot. If you do not already know, you are gonna be a great grandpa. My girlfriend Michael and I are expecting on August 30’TH. I love you and will see ya soon. Eric, Michael and Baby.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your family Helen, Kinney and Lisa in your time of sorrow. It has been a long time since the last time I had seen Lawrence but he was truly one of a kind with his gentle caring way. May GOD BLESS you all and guide your hearts to peace. I am so very sorry to hear of Larry’s passing, yet joyous in the fact that he is now in Heaven brightening things up there…the one thing I will never forget was Larry’s love and smile…he would tell me repeatly that he only knew 3 signs in American Sign Language and that was SEE YOU LATER…he always left church with his big old grin and would sign SEE YOU LATER to me each week…and now I won’t see that anymore but I can picture him in Heaven looking down and smiling at me as he says SEE YOU LATER…my deepst sympathy to Helen and the entire family at this time…I understand the pain you are feeling as I lost my husband 6 years ago on March 18th and his birthday is 2 days later so I know the loss you now have but what a joy to know that both our husbands are in the arms of Jesus and are both no longer in pain and I can see both Harry (my husband) and Larry looking down with their ever-glowing smiles and signing to us all SEE YOU LATER! My dad, mom, Pam, Tiger, and I send our deepest condolense to you all. Lawrence was a wonderful person to get to know. I know your hearts are filled with sorrow. Just remember that Lawrence is with God and is no longer suffering. Also, he will always be with us, so, fill your hearts with his love and be strong. You are all in our prayers and please know that we are here for you always.
