Born in: Pueblo, Colorado
Resided in: Pueblo, Colorado

Joan Mihalick insisted that her obituary be written by herself only.  It is as follows:

Joan Mihalick, 81, was born in Pueblo on November 25, 1944 and passed away on October 12, 2026. She is survived by her husband, of 62 years, David; children, Mystic Mihalick (Kevin Decker), and Salem Mihalick (Greg Martinez); son-in-law, Randy Alcon; grandchildren, Cheyenne (Aimee) Alcon, Sierra  Alcon (Xzavier Avalos), and Damien Baca; best friend and cousin, Jeff (Cheryl) Abernathy; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Predeceased by her parents, Steve and Elizabeth Bensko; daughter, Morgan Alcon; son, Kris Mihalick; and brothers, Art Bensko and Bob Bensko.

She was the Secretary/Treasurer and co-owner of J&J Paving, Inc. and many other successful businesses. She served as the President of the Pueblo County Historical Society in 2014. She loved to travel in this country, Egypt and Europe. She also enjoyed working with craft items. In Pueblo West, she joined the Pueblo West  Women’s League and was happy with the ladies and all their projects around their community. But her passion was video poker and she spent many trips to Laughlin and Black Hawk hitting 39 hands of royal flushes.

At her request, no memorial service will be held but she asked that those who knew her might visit with her husband and daughters to share their memories and experiences of her with them.  The visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2026, in the Montgomery & Steward Funeral Chapel. 1. CandleImageMy mom was the most badass feminist before I even knew what the word meant! I’ll never forget when we me, Morgan and Salem were very little kids and Mom went downtown to buy a car because Dad doesn’t like dealing with people. The salesmen told her to “come back with her husband.” She told them in no uncertain terms that SHE would be the one making the decision to buy the car and they just lost not only that sale but every sale in the future! She spun around on her heel and marched out and two salesmen and the manager chased after her, calling, “Ma’am, ma’am!” trying to get her to come back and change her mind. The rest of us toddled after her as fast as we could. I was probably only 6 or 7 but I remember thinking, “Wow…she doesn’t take crap from ANYONE!” I will miss you soooo much Mom! Love, Mystic
