Edward Ralph Mastro, Jr., M.D.
May 28, 1932 – February 11, 2026
Edward Ralph Mastro, Jr., 93, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026.
Born on May 28, 1932, in Pueblo, to Edward and Louise (Adamich) Mastro, Ed grew up in the Bessemer neighborhood and was a proud graduate of Pueblo Central High School. He attended Creighton University, and Creighton University School of Medicine. He later completed postgraduate studies at Harvard University.
Dr. Mastro served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army, spending two years stationed in Verdun, France. Following his military service, he returned to Pueblo where he dedicated nearly four decades (1964-2002) to the practice of general and trauma surgery. Over the course of his career, he performed thousands of surgeries, caring for generations of families and responding to countless emergency cases with skill and steady resolve. He served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at St. Mary Corwin Hospital, later serving on the hospital’s Board of Directors.
Ed was a longtime parishioner, and usher at Christ the King Catholic Church, and gave generously of his time assisting with Meals on Wheels and medical service projects. He believed deeply in service – to his patients, his church and his community.
Outside of medicine, Ed found joy in golf, running and bicycling. He cherished family time and rarely missed a chance to cheer on his children and grandchildren at their games, performances, and activities. His pride in his family was unmistakable.
He is survived by his children: Mary McAtee, Anne (John) Dooley, and Michael (Laura) Mastro; and grandchildren: Kevin, Colin, and Katherine McAtee; Kathleen Dooley (fiancé Jeff Florey), Bridget (Atticus) Shaskan, and Joseph Dooley; Eddie, Aunna (fiancé D.J. Hurd) and Evan Mastro; as well as great- grandson, Arthur Shaskan. He is also survived by his sisters-in law, Kathy (John) Meehan and Jan Gentleman, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Sue Mastro; son-in-law, Mark McAtee; grandson, Alex Mastro; and brothers-in-law, Robert and Tom Gentleman.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Christ the King Catholic Church,
1708 Horseshoe Drive in Pueblo. A private internment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, St. Mary Corwin Hospital Foundation, or the Pueblo Community Soup Kitchen.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Parkview Rehabilitation Center, St. Mary Corwin Hospital, and Lucille Osteen for her loving and devoted care at home.
Dr. Mastro’s legacy lives on in the lives he saved, the family and friends he cherished, and the community he faithfully served. Online condolences, www.MontgomerySteward.com
