Louis A. Spera

Lou passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2026. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Arlene; his parents, Nick and Lillian; and his brother, Anthony.
He leaves behind his son, Greg; daughter, Paula; and grandchildren: Zachery Sisson (Denelle) and their children Zoey and Violet, along with Jordan and Jacob. He also leaves his beloved golden retriever, Molly.
Lou was born on September 6, 1938. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was deployed to Korea. Upon returning home, he married Arlene Zupancic in 1959. After leaving the Air Force, Lou became a civil servant for the U.S. Army, working primarily at the Pueblo Army Depot. Following a 30-year career, he retired — briefly. An entrepreneur at heart, Lou founded a residential and commercial construction company, building more than 300 homes as well as numerous restaurants throughout the community.
Using the GI Bill, Lou pursued his passion for aviation and learned to fly. His final aircraft was an RV-series plane, which he enjoyed flying throughout southern Colorado whenever he was not building, working, or participating in his many interests and community activities.
Lou was deeply involved in community service, including work with Neighborhood Works, helping build homes for others. He was a member of the Dante Alighieri Society and traveled to Italy with the organization. He also participated in Pueblo Sister Cities.

We’ve known Lou and Arlene for nearly 29 years. We were blessed to have known them both. Sorry for your loss.

  6. Condolences to Lou’s family. I never got to meet Lou in person but I had hoped to but life got in the way. There were many years we communicated via e-mail about family history. He told me I got him hooked. It all started with a blind letter after I found that he appeared to be related to my Panepinto family. I am pretty sure I went through the white pages and sent various people letters. I found Lou and John Panepinto who also lives in Pueblo. Going from memory my great grandfather Luigi Salvatore Panepinto was cousins with Luigi Spera son of Nicolo Spera. After his first trip to Sicily, Italy to the place our family came from Alia he sent me pictures and a booklet about Alia. I know after that he studies Italian and spend some time in Italy practicing that Italian. I have yet been able to visit Italy. In later years I missed our frequent e-mails but we would e-mail every so often throughout the years. I was saddened for Lou when I figured out he lost his beloved wife Arlene. Now to learn about Lou, I have no words except I felt like I knew him.

    Again, Condolences,
    Christine Panepinto Bard

  10. CandleImageOur deepest condolences to the Spera Family. Lou built us our dream retirement home, and we were lucky enough to have a strong and lasting friendship with Lou and Arlene. Lou was a kind and generous soul who even helped me cure my fear of flying by taking me up in his beloved yellow plane. Rest in peace dear friend you have earned it

  11. Dear Greg, Paula and family. My deepest sympathy in the loss of your Father and Grandfather. Prayers and Love.

    • CandleImageLou was my Homie. We were neighbors for over thirty years. We’ve laughed we argued we enjoyed each other’s company. After his wife passed away we became closer as Lou would come by the house on Sunday and have dinner with us. Lou would also come over and watch the bronco games with us. Lou was a home builder , pilot, a beekeeper and before his death was learning to play guitar. Both Lou and I grew up in Bessemer , a place we were both proud of . Please pray for our dear friend and Neighbor, Lou . My condolences to his family. Rest in peace.Lou.

  12. Greg and Paula, I had the privilege of knowing your parents for over 28 years, and they were truly exceptional neighbors. Following your mother’s passing, I developed a very close bond with Lou. I frequently prepared meals for him, and he genuinely enjoyed my cooking. Recalling these memories brings a great deal of emotion.

I held your father in high regard. He was a kind, gentle, and remarkably compassionate individual.
I am truly going to miss him. I will miss him and Molly in the backyard, and I will miss having him over to watch the Broncos play. And I will miss cooking for him.💔🙏

    • Thank you Terry, for all the meals you cooked for my dad. He enjoyed your cooking. Thank you for being there for him after my mother passed.

  13. Paula, & Greg, I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. He joined my husband John Catalano 2/10/26 & John Gallegos 2/12/26. The three best friends growing up together! Probably getting together in Heaven causing all kinds of havoc together again! Louie and I spoke on the phone about an hour just a day or so before he left to join Arlene and talked about the old days. I certainly will miss all three of them! My condolences to you both! Love, Nancy

  14. Lou was a frequent visitor at Democratic Headquarters. Lou often sharing his wisdom. We will miss his smiling face.
So sorry for your loss. 🕊

  15. CandleImageDear Paula and Greg. I am so sorry for the loss we are all suffering right now. Please know that my love and deepest sympathies are with you and your families. Oh how I will miss my dear neighbor. I have known Lou since I was in my early 20’s. “You” and “Auntie Aryene” as my kids called them when they were little, had a special place in our hearts. I worked with Lou at the Depot for 9 years, then we were fortunate enough that he and Arlene built their home directly across the street from us (we share the mailbox). When Lou and Arlene started Spera Homes, we owned Cortese Sheet Metal (HVAC), Dave did all the heating and air conditioning work for them. We have a been more family than neighbors. Rhett loved taking Lou his mail and Lou was enjoying watching my grandson’s grow. Lou was a very large part of my life and I will miss him tremendously. He and Arlene have carried a piece of my heart to heaven with them. Rest in peace my friend. You worked hard on earth and deserve it. With love I say farewell “until we meet again”. 💙🙏💙
