Born in: Pueblo, Colorado
Resided in: Boone, Colorado

Larry Fillmore went home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2026, at the age of 85, passing peacefully in Pueblo, Colorado, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. Born on January 13, 1941, in Pueblo to Arthur and Grace Fillmore, Larry was raised with deep roots in the land that has sustained the Fillmore family now for five generations. Boone, Colorado, was not just his hometown, it was his life. The wide-open plains, the rhythm of calving season, the dust of the corrals, and the early morning sunrises over pasture ground shaped the man he became.

From a young age, Larry knew he was meant to ranch. He developed a profound respect for cattle and the responsibility that came with stewarding the land. Over the years, he became a highly respected figure in the local agricultural community. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he helped introduce European cattle genetics to the region, first focusing on the Charolais breed before transitioning to Limousin Cattle. He became known as one of the finest AI technicians in Southeast Colorado—skilled, patient, and deeply knowledgeable. Larry also served as President of the Pueblo County Cattlemen’s Association and implemented bus tours of local ranches. Ranchers from near and far trusted his expertise.

Every spring, Larry eagerly anticipated the annual bull sale. While the cattle were important, what he cherished most were  the conversations—the firm handshakes, the laughter, and the relationships built over decades with buyers who traveled from many states. His quick wit and steady work ethic earned him not only respect, but lasting friendships.

Larry’s pride in ranching extended beyond his own work. He found great joy in passing down his knowledge and love of the land to his children and grandchildren. He faithfully supported his children in 4-H cattle showing, spending countless hours helping prepare animals and offering quiet encouragement. He coached his boys in basketball, teaching not only the game, but the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. He was also instrumental in organizing the Boone High School reunion, helping preserve the history and memories of a school and community that meant so much to him. Larry understood the importance of remembering where you came from. Outside of ranch life, Larry was a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets. He enjoyed watching the games and, when he could, attending a Nuggets game in person. Whether in the stands or at home, he cheered with the same enthusiasm he brought to all parts of his life.

Larry was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church, where his faith quietly guided him. He lived his beliefs through hard work, integrity, generosity, and devotion to his family. Above all, Larry was a family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Elsie; his children Sherrie Fillmore, Connie Tidwell, Gary Fillmore (Terri), Doug Fillmore (LaTricia), Brent Fillmore, and Joy Fillmore and Ron Baker; his Brother Lewis (Linn) Fillmore, 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will carry forward his legacy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Grace Fillmore; his brother, Donnie Fillmore; his sister, Dorothy Trantham; his stepson, Paul Baker and his grandson, Jeff Tabares.

Larry’s life was measured not just in years, but in seasons—planting, calving, harvesting, basketball, teaching, and loving. His boots may rest now, but his legacy lives on in the land he tended, the cattle he carefully raised, and the family he so faithfully
led.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever part of the Colorado plains he called home.
