WILLIAM McConnell Jr
Amy Pauline (Biggi) McConnell
Amy Pauline (Biggi) McConnell, beloved wife to William Harold McConnell, Sr. (deceased) for just shy of fifty years, and mother to Cathleen (McConnell) Blackmore (Benjamin) and William Harold McConnell, Jr., passed away at age 101 in Pueblo, Colorado on January 8, 2026, leaving a legacy of love, light, and laughter.
Born in Pennsylvania in 1924 to Mary and Paul Biggi, she grew up as the “baby” in the family, in Pueblo where her parents had moved for her father’s work at the steel mill (CF&I). Raised in Bessemer with an older brother Paul and older sister Gloria, Amy lived in Pueblo most of her life. After graduating from Pueblo Central High School, she completed beauty college in Pennsylvania before returning to Colorado. While working in a local beauty shop, a customer introduced her to her son Bill (Mac). In love at first sight, Amy and Bill were married for just shy of fifty years. Amy continued in the beauty field and Mac worked in insurance before moving to Denver, where Mac received a degree from the University of Denver. After returning to Pueblo to be closer to family, they welcomed their children, Cathy and Billy, into their family. The young McConnell family loved camping and fishing and touring national parks, visiting every national park west of the Mississippi. In retirement, their love of travel continued, as they discovered their love for cruising and attended many army reunions in the states and abroad.
Amy was a devoted mother, grandmother, great- and great-great-grandmother, and her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved whatever her kids were involved in. She said they changed her life for the better, and the family felt that in the love and support she provided.
Amy took special joy in serving her community through volunteering, and over the years, lent time and energy to delivering Meals on Wheels, assisting with meal preparation at Pueblo SRDA, working in the office at Pueblo’s First United Methodist Church, and leading tours as a valued docent at Rosemont Museum, who honored her during Women’s History Month as an Outstanding Woman of 2015.
Surviving cancer and a broken elbow and arm in her eighties and nineties, Amy lived relatively independently through her hundredth birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Paul and his wife Alice, and her husband William Harolld McConnell, Sr., and is survived and will be missed by Cathleen (Benjamin) Blackmore, Alana (Matt DeLaria) Davis-DeLaria; CW (Megan) Davis, Levi, Cruz, Gabriella, and Calleigh Davis; Ben (Debi) Blackmore II, Christina (Bobby) Moore, Lilliana and Vivienne Moore and Stephanie Blackmore; Jarod Ward, Ryder Ward, and Abby Johnson, Derek Johnson; Lori Carochi, Gina (Mitch Miller), Angelina, and Dominic Carochi; Kimbra (Nato) Blackmore, Nate and Ian McKissick; William McConnell Jr., Crystal McConnell, Bo Apodaca, Kyrie Apodaca, Josiah Jason Montiel, Isaiah Perry-Darwin Clines; Jennifer McConnell and Desirae Real, Journee McConnell; Natasha McConnell, Brendon and Brycen Ortega; Beverly (Larry) Haapanen, Holly Haapanen, Noah Shepard; Paulette (David) Helsley, Jennifer (Jonathon) Marcellus, Triston, Kadon, Logon, and Brodin Marcellus; Laurel Haapanen and Adrian Cameron.
