Sandy was born on Oct. 4, 1950, in Pueblo, Colo., and graduated from Centennial High School in 1969. From there, she went on to pursue a degree in accounting. Sandy had a love of the arts as well. In 1984, she discovered the art of Saga Nishiki, a Japanese form of weaving, once only reserved for Japanese royalty. Since then, she has been teaching and selling Saga Nishiki. In 1991, she was published in an article in the magazine, Handwoven Magazine, about the art of Saga Nishiki. She also took it upon herself to write the only book written in English about the art. She was a member of the Weavers Guild of Pueblo, where she served as treasurer for many years. She enjoyed other forms of art as well, such as wire weaving, needle felting and painting along with many other crafts. Sandy also played a number of instruments, including the piano, saxophone and harp. She also loved the art of shopping, especially for artwork of many kinds. Sandy loved playing golf and traveling with her family, and especially loved spending time with her grandson, Robbie.
