February 17, 1934 ~ December 2, 2023

Born in: Westcliffe, Colorado
Resided in: Pueblo, Colorado

On Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, age 89, Leotus Marie Seybold went on to spend eternity with her Lord. Because of her faith in Jesus Christ and His Lordship over her life, she passed immediately to the throne room of God to hear Him say “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25). Leotus was born in Westcliffe, Colo., on Feb. 17, 1934.  She was the second of two daughters of Joseph and Thelma Schulze. At 13 years old, her life was impacted dramatically when her mother was killed, tragically, in a collision of their car with a train in Canon City. A week or so prior, her mother had sat her down and explained that she needed to grow up because she would not always be there for her. This event, combined with her rich Lutheran heritage of Colorado homesteaders, caused Leotus to profess faith in Jesus Christ during her childhood confirmation classes. Despite constant battles with illness as a child, she yearned for the outdoors and helped her father with farming and caring for the animals. One day, while the local sawmill was delivering firewood to her home, she was outside in coveralls and noticed a handsome young man on the wagon. She ran inside so as not to be seen as a tomboy. He didn’t see her that way but instead commented, “I didn’t know the Schulze’s had a girl.” That man, Ray Seybold, later became her lifelong companion and the two were married on Sept. 11, 1953. Ray worked briefly for the railroad but then engaged in a long career with Frontier Airlines, while Leotus raised three children (two boys and one girl). Ray’s career had the family move from Kansas City, Mo., to Farmington, N.M., to Havre, Mont., to Gallop, N.M., to Cody, Wyo., and finally settle in Pueblo, Colo., where they have lived for the last 57 years. They made a shift from the corporate world to business owners in 1972 when the two started multiple businesses including a tire shop, rental car agency, travel service and auto sales. Leotus was very active in all of these but found her career running Scripture Supply Store from 1974 to 1994. She loved to read so the bookstore was the perfect business for her. She loved even more to give her life away in service to others. Many Puebloans grew to love and adore her Christ-like smile and selfless service when they visited the downtown store at Fifth and Grand. She not only served in the store but also as a lay leader at churches where she was a faithful member: Bethany Lutheran, First Baptist and Majestic Baptist. She also volunteered at Parkview Hospital for over 20 years. Two months ago, Ray and Leotus celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her husband, Ray Seybold; sons, Ron (DeAnn) Seybold and Gordon (Gwen) Seybold; daughter, Thelma (Jim) Mueller; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ada Pendarvis. She was preceded in death by her mom and dad, Joseph and Thelma; and her great-grandson, Jace. A viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel and her Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at Majestic Baptist Church, 494 E Hemlock Dr., Pueblo West. In lieu of flowers, please send your contributions in memory of Leotus Seybold to A Caring Pregnancy Center of Pueblo, 500 Colorado Ave., Pueblo, CO 81004 or acpcpueblo.org. 1. CandleImageI will always remember Leotus with a smile on my face. She was always so sincere and kind every time I had the pleasure to encounter her. We at ACPC are truly honored and humbled by the generosity shown by her entire family. Ray, we are praying for you and the family she left behind. She’ll see you all tomorrow.

  2. I was saddened to hear of her passing, sorry I missed the service and seeing the family, She was an inspiration to look up to, and a bright light to work with. She will be greatly missed.
    GOD BLESS TO ALL.

  3. CandleImageHello Martha,
A dear neighbor of my Mom’s passed last week so I came to the M&S website to check for any postings yet and came across the Seybold name. Then I looked at your Mother’s photo and knew right away she belonged to you, or perhaps the other way around. Do you remember playing with me on the airplanes while your Mom (I think or maybe a different relative) and my oldest sister cleaned the planes? Then one day after you and I had grown into adulthood and not long after I had accepted Jesus as my Savior, I found you behind the counter at your family’s Christian book store. I will never forget when you told me that you had been praying for my salvation ever since the day you drove into to get gas at the station I was working at and we exchanged greetings a few years prior. The last time I saw you, again at the bookstore, was not long after the tragic loss of your first husband. I remember then and I still do today, thinking you were the bravest person I might ever come across as you explained to me what happened in the accident all while smiling the brightest smile I had ever seen as big drops of tears fell from your eyes. Your face was actually glowing and I knew that the Lord was present. I am so pleased to see you have another spouse listed above and have prayed that such would happen for you ever since our last meeting way back in the late 80’s I do believe. I left Colorado with my new husband in 1993 moving to MT and then to AK where I have been since 1996. I have never forgotten you and want you now to know that I am so sorry for your loss, but rejoice that another of God’s faithful servants is with Him in Glory today and forever just waiting for our arrival. I suspect that this will be when next you and I shall see each other so in the meantime, may your Dad, siblings and all your family be comforted by His love, and may you continue to be blessed upon the earth until we meet again, my old childhood friend, playmate and sister in Christ.

  4. We are so fortunate to know Leotus and Ray as such kind and welcoming neighbors. Our sincere condolences to Ray and all the family she so adored.

You may not remember me-BUT, I did your wedding flowers when I had Creative Flowers! Such a fun and inventive wedding! Your mom, I remember well. Such a sweet and kind person. Always delightful! I loved Scripture Supply!
My dad was chief Airport traffic controller and he knew your dad, from Airport days. Such a small world in a small town. I send you my sympathy from the many years ago-we worked together! Blessings.

  7. Leotus was a BRIGHT light in this world and one of a select few to shine brightest for Christ. She faithfully brought her wisdom and LOVE to the Women’s Interdenominational Bible Study for years and I am grateful to have known her heart and service to the believers attending. Her legacy will go on in those she blessed, taught and loved.

  8. To the entire Seybold family,
I will be praying for you during this tremendous loss. She touched so many lives, and truly was such a kind lady who lived her faith. What a wonderful tribute written about her life, and I know she would be proud to have her legacy carried on through her family. I am grateful to have known her, and have a peace knowing we will see her again along with those who know the Lord. Much love, Kim Carere
