March 24, 1941 ~ January 2, 2023

Born in: Appleton, Wisconsin
Resided in: Pueblo, Colorado

John Scorgie, an attorney by profession and musician by passion, died Jan. 2, 2023. He was 81. He is survived by his wife, Margie; son, Andrew of Colorado Springs; daughter, Jeanie (Mike Hanson) of Denver; sister, Jean Scorgie of Fort Collins; and brother, Alan (Pam) Scorgie of Boring, Ore. John grew up in Wisconsin and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and its law school. He practiced law in Pueblo from 1973 until he retired in 2007, much of that time as an assistant city attorney. Music was his lifelong love. He started playing clarinet as a child and taught himself to play saxophone as a teenager. He played for many years in the Pueblo Municipal Band and the Southern Colorado Community Band based in Canon City. Donations through the funeral home, to either band would be appreciated by the family in lieu of flowers. He also had a fine singing voice which he was happy to lend to any occasion. Memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at First Presbyterian Church of Pueblo, with Pastor Nancy Smith officiating. Online condolences, www.MontgomerySteward.com

  1. Margie,
Had a lot of fun with John and too, especially when the kids were younger. (That one Halloween …). Last time I saw John was in the grocery store during COVID and trying to communicate with our masks on and making fun of our collective hearing loss. He was a great guy, and you must miss him dearly. Mary and I offer our deepest sympathies.

  2. I am heartbroken to hear about John’s passing. As City Clerk I had the privilege of working with John and he never ceased to amaze me with his wide range of knowledge. He was always full of laughter.

  3. Dear Margie, Jeanie and Andy
So sorry to hear about John. He was always so friendly and kind to me whenever I saw him. It is a great loss for you his family and all who knew him. Take care at this tough time.

  4. I was fortunate to know and work with John for 28 years. He was so kind, generous, and had a great sense of humor. He will be missed by many. Such a sad loss for all who knew him, but especially for Margie, Andy, and Jeanie.

  5. Margie, Andy, and Jean,
We are thinking of you at this difficult time, and are sorry to hear about John. Such a sharp guy, and everyone loved the Pueblo Municipal Band concerts. Your family is special!
    With sincere sympathy,
    Sandy and Fred Lindquist

  6. Margie, I am sorry to learn that John passed away. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your little family.
    Hugs, Pattee

  7. Margie: Sorry to hear about John’s passing. He was a first-class, witty guy and a credit to his profession. He was also lucky to have had the love of an equally classy and competent woman. I was honored to know him and to share time with you in the newsroom.

  8. Margie and family,
I was so saddened to read about John’s passing. I always enjoyed his dry sense of humor and intellect.
I know this is a great loss for you and your family. Your love for John always was visible.
… Paula and I are out of the country and will be unable to attend Wednesday’s service, but you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
    Steve and Paula Henson

  9. Margie, so sorry to hear about John. Just wanted send my prayers to you. We moved to Arizona about 2 1/2 years ago and love it.

    Peggy Dissler

  10. John was one of the kindest men I have ever met always friendly and always had a smile on his face. Was so kind and gentle. If I saw him before he played, we always chatted. John will be so missed playing his saxophone with the Pueblo Municipal Band at their free summer performances and you could tell he loved playing his sax. My sincere sympathy and condolences to his beautiful family, Margie, Andrew and Jeanie.
