Joel C. Plath, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Pueblo West, Colo. on Oct. 13, 2018. He was born July 16, 1947, in Lafayette, Indiana and lived a life full of adventure and world travels. Growing up Joel lived in Thailand and traveled throughout Europe. He received his B.A. in Latin American history from UP Stockton. Following college, he entered the Peace Corps and for three years, he worked alongside farmers in the Andes Mountains of Peru. He returned to the States where he earned his Master's Degree and PhD in Agricultural Economics. Joel met the love of his life, Kathy, in Madison, Wisconsin, while in school. He proceeded to work in Lesotho, Africa for the next two years where their son, Craig, was born. Son, Brian, was born in Pullman, Washington. Back in the States, his work with Extension took him to Washington, Virginia, California and he completed his career working for CSU Extension as a regional director. He was a respected leader and had a fulfilling career. He loved to read, walk his dog, Zoe, go camping, and spend time with family. His gentle demeanor, sense of humor, and kind words will be missed by all who knew him. Memorial service, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 27, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel with lunch to follow.
