Walsenburg, Colorado

Pueblo, Colorado
Susanne Elizabeth Wagner-Allen, age 91, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024. She was born January 8th, 1933, in Walsenburg, Colorado, to Mark and Mary Lamme. The family moved to Las Animas, Colorado, where Sue was raised with her two brothers, Gary and Mike. After a brief courtship, she eloped and married her first love, Rex M. Wagner, on January 9th, 1954, in Sparks, Nevada. Right away, Sue became what she was meant and wanted to be – a Godly woman, a wife, and an incredible mother of four children. Not only did she cook amazing meals, sew all the clothes, and clean all the house, she had a magical way of completing all of this with a smile and a gracious heart. Loving her family became her passion and she did it with joy. After living in Pueblo for a period, Sue and Rex moved to a cabin in Beulah, Colorado, and finished raising their brood. Sue loved everything about Beulah and engrossed herself in this mountain valley. She turned her cabin into a warm, inviting home where countless parties took place. Sue was friendly to everyone she met and could make instant friendships from across the street. She loved the mountains and was always up for a hike or a camping trip. Her love of nature, hiking, and camping was infectious, which she passed on to her kids and grandkids. Their faith in God, love of family and friends, and passion for the Broncos propelled them forward in life.
After the untimely death of her husband in 1986 and with her children raised, she found herself searching for things to occupy her time. She turned to selling her pecan figurines, homemade dolls and clothes at art shows. She took up aerobics, yoga, knitting, and square dancing with friends. Creating adventurous and magical experiences for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was a highlight for her. Magic pots, fairy trees, homemade ice-cream, and adventure hikes played a huge part in the fun. She turned holidays and birthday celebrations into magical events.
After Sue attended her high school class reunion, she fell in love again with a former classmate Grady Allen. They married in 1995. Sue and Grady had wonderous adventures together. They hooked up their camper and took off exploring the country. They had a particular love for Sanibel, Florida, and became snowbirds every winter. They enjoyed all their new friends and the wonderful, exciting environment. They were an inseparable couple.
Sue will be remembered for her Faith in her Lord, her infectious smile, her remarkable gifts of hospitality and friendship, and her magical way of seeing the world as new and exciting. Even in the last stretch of her life when dementia had taken hold, she still had a spark in her eyes, a smile on her face, an “I love you” to everyone she met, and was still singing Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah till the end.
Her life was a living example of the Bible verse – Ephesians 4:32
“And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Sue is survived by her spouse – Henry “Grady” Allen
Children – Mark (Ruth) Wagner, Tom (Marilyn) Wagner, Jill (Joe) Wodiuk, John (Kim) Wagner
She will be missed by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren

I was so sorry to hear about your loss, I wish I had the pleasure of meeting Sue. She sounds like she was a wonderful woman. I can say that she raised a special daughter that I’m blessed to have as a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Whenever Sue came in the shop, it was like a ray of sunshine! Her smile brightened up the room and her cheerful and sweet disposition was so fun to be around. She was a sweet special lady and I know she will be missed by all who knew her.
My prayers are with you, Jill And the rest of your family.

Dean and I are so saddened to hear of Sue’s passing. We consider ourselves very blessed to have known both Sue and Grady while camping in Florida. Our sincere condolences. Dean and Arlene Hugdahl
So many memories with the Wagner family! Sue was always in my life through church and the friendship she and Rex had with my mom and dad! Sue was a jewel with a smile that never stopped. I loved her so much, she was like a second mother to me when mom passed away. Lots of memories hanging out with Jill and watching Sue sew her clothes and eat her meals. Great memories, heaven gained an angel! I suppose they are all up there getting caught up on life! It shall be sweet to join them all one day!! Love ya Jill, hugs to you and your brothers.
I remember sue and Grady inviting us over to their house! So we took the kids and we were all just talking outside, when I see a bear out of the corner of my eye, just laying by their house. Grady was like , that’s Rosco! Sue and Grady begin to tell the story of how rosco was named before they found out she was a female, when she started bringing her cubs the next year and how Grady was mowing the lawn one day and shut it off and went inside really quick. He started to go back outside and rosco was standing up on her hind legs ,pushing their lawn mower around!! Sue was such a beautiful person inside and out! I was very blessed to have known her!
After Bernie died, she and Grady had me for dinners and card games. They always sat by me in church and Sue would hold my hand. I missed that so much when they moved up to the front pew so Grady could hear.
What a blessing she was in my life. She will be missed so very much but she’s in heaven with Jesus. I asked her one time who she wanted to see most when she got to heaven and she said “Rex”. Well she’s seeing him now and what a time they are having.
Jill, this is so beautifully written! Your mom’s kind ways and beautiful smile lives on in you!

Sue and Rex and Grady were such wonderful friends to my parents, Cliff and Betty Coatney. They had great times entertaining and traveling together. Mom especially looked forward to meeting them and their circle of friends for dinner at The Host.
Dear Jill, as soon as I saw your mom’s picture, I remembered her immediately. Her smile was one I will never forget. I am sorry for your loss.
Sue was my friend and neighbor many years ago in Beulah. She was such a fun, giving and kind person. I’m so happy I knew her. My heartfelt sympathies.
