Celebration of Life:

Nita Marie Serracino, 90, went home to be with the Lord, on September 18th, 2024. She was born October 26, 1933, in Pueblo, Colorado to Thelma and Ruben Wolfenbarger. Nita was preceded in death by her husband Pete Serracino, daughter Karen Serracino and infant son, Christopher Serracino. Nita is survived by her sons: Peter V. and Augustine R Serracino, grandchildren: Vincent Serracino, Peter Serracino III, Jordan Serracino, Christina Serracino, great-grandchildren: Tony Maldonaldo, Sarah Maldonaldo, Winston Serracino and Miles Serracino. Nita has several cousins, nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews that love her dearly.

Nita was the middle child of 5 with 2 sisters, Betty and Carol, 2 brothers, Kenny and Gary. As a small child, Nita and her family traveled and lived in many locations around Colorado and even Utah, as her father Ruben was a steel worker. In their youth, Nita and Betty used to help take care of their younger sister Carol, because she was a very active tomboy. Carol used to keep Nita and Betty on their toes, doing things like climbing on the roof of the house when visitors would come and running around the house imitating Elvis Presley.

As a teenager, Nita and her older sister Betty worked in the old, infamous, Wilson Hotel in Rye, Colorado on weekends. They had many adventures together dealing with difficult guests in the dining room and while being so tired, many times, they fell asleep on the hotel beds they had just made.

Nita graduated from Central High school in 1950, and thereafter she worked in the office of her father’s business, Rocky Mountain Bridge Company in Denver, Colorado, for some time. While doing clerical work for her father, Nita had a dream of becoming a nurse as a Navy Wave. Nita’s lifelong dream of becoming a navy nurse faded when she discovered later that she couldn’t stand the sight of blood!  Her dream was shattered!

Later, Nita met her future husband Pete Serracino, 9 years her senior, while visiting her cousin Donna Blankenship in Pueblo. Nita really caught Pete’s eye, maybe it was her red hair, but very soon they were dating regularly. Pete and Nita were married in 1954 and not long after, they moved into the family farm on Overton road , where Pete grew up with nine other siblings. In time Nita gave birth to 3 children, Karen, Peter and Augustine, who were raised for the most part on the Serracino farm.

Nita was a devoted wife and mother who was always available to her husband and children. She enjoyed life on the farm, even though later they moved to town permanently residing in Belmont. Nita was of German Irish and English descent but learned to cook excellent Italian food from her mother-In law, Giovannina. Consequently, Nita became very well known throughout the family and friends for her incredible pizza!

Nita was a kind, nurturing mother and wife. She was also a friend and counselor to her children and husband. Occasionally some of us didn’t listen to her, but she had this strange knack for being right, most of the time in a humble manner. Nita was loved by family and friends alike and will always be remembered for her sweet, kind, loving nature and as a woman with a strong faith in God that was very active in church. To us, Nita was the ideal mother, she was also a devout sister in Christ, and she will always be my best friend!

Love you, mom!

Guestbook

  1. Dear Pete and Gus, my heart is heavy at the loss of your mom, she was a dear friend. I had so hoped to be able to attend her services today to see you all again, but my body and health are preventing it. I will definitely be watching the stream. I send my deep sympathies and hugs and kisses. Love, Esther

  2. CandleImageWe will never forget Aunt Nita, Uncle Pete, or Karen. We will always remember all of the times we spent together with our aunt, uncle, and dear cousins! Aunt Nita loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and she was never afraid to talk about her Faith and Love in the Lord. Heaven gained an angel, and we have a mentor to learn from in a woman who was a beautiful mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
We offer our sincere condolences to Peter and Gus and their families. We are praying for God’s peace and comfort to all of you.
