Nellie Kay Brelsford

Jun 17, 1943 – May 11, 2023

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of Nellie Kay Brelsford.  Born as Nellie Kay Snodgress on June 17th, 1943.  She grew up all over Colorado, from Kit Carson to Black Forest, and later settled in Pueblo where she attended school at Excelsior and then later at County High School.  After that, she met the love of her life, Roy Edgar Ewing, and later moved on to Alamosa to start her life.  After the passing of Roy in 1975 she remarried, John Thomas Brelsford, and spent the rest of her working years in Alamosa, before hitting the road to enjoy their retirement.  Then after a number of years, without enough to do at home, she went back to work as a paraprofessional for Pueblo District 70 until she again retired in 2019.

Kay, to whom she was affectionately known, lives in spirit through her son, Max F. Ewing, numerous relatives, who all claim she was their favorite, and tons of special friends that she had made through the years.  She will be deeply missed by all of the people that knew her, and it will be said that she has created a missing piece in all of us.

  1. My grandma Kay was such an important and special part of my life. I wouldn’t be the lady I am today if it wasn’t for her. I remember all of the valuable things she taught me such as having manners, washing dishes, cleaning up after dinner and setting the table as well. One of her most famous sayings was, “Desiree, use your head for something else besides a hat rack!” I feel the best thing she ever taught me was the golden rule, which is “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” I remember when she used to give me baths when I was a little girl, and she would say… “Oh my goodness, Desiree, you have potatoes in your ears!” She gave me love when I needed it the most. She taught me how to rollerblade, she taught me how to cross the monkey bars! Her and Grandpa John would call me their little fisher girl, and be so happy when I would go fishing with them when I was a teenager. My Grandma Kay was so beautiful and strong! I’m so thankful and blessed that she was a part of my life. I love you Grandma Kay, may you rest in peace.

  2. Ms. Kay, you were an amazing lady! You were a lifesaver to many students, some of whom may have never graduated hadn’t it been for you. May your gentle and kind soul Rest in Peace my friend from Irene Moore 🙏 Former co worker at 70 Online where Ms. Kay retired from.

  3. Aunt Kay was a light to everyone around her. Full of fun, laughter, and spunk she showed so much joy in life. We will miss her so much! Max, you were a light in Her life! May God provide you with comfort during this time. 🩷🙏🩷

  4. I will miss my Facebook buddy. Rest in peace Kay. Say hello to my Mom and Dad in heaven. You will be missed. Good bless you and your family

  5. Kay was such a special person and I consider myself rich for having known her as a friend and neighbor. Her smile was infectious and always visible even when things weren’t going great. What a blessing that we talked just a few weeks before her death. She was concerned about her upcoming surgery but was ready for whatever happened. She was prepared to meet Jesus. To her beloved son Max, you have our deepest and sincere sympathy at the loss of your dear Mother and friend. The two of you were such a support for each other. May God grant you peace during this difficult time and may sweet memories of your Mom warm your heart and bring a smile to your face. We love you!
