Lorraine Frances Stanko, age 97, of Erie, Colo., passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2025.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Stanko; her children, Laura Stanko Joy, Richard Stanko, and Lisa Stanko; and her mother, Mary Cecilia Korun.
She is survived by her brother, Frank Donald Korun; daughters, Suzette (Jerry) Compton and Diane (Marty Martinez) Stanko; grandchildren, Vikki (Brian) Connor, Darren Compton, Neil Compton, Sarah Joy, Emily Joy, and Heather Joy; cousin, Blaž Stiplovšek; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Devon (Breanne), Brandon, Aiden, Logan, Kieran, Zachary, Joe, Kailey, Shelby; great-great-grandsons, Ben and Ethan; along with extended family and many dear friends.
Lorraine was a talented seamstress, known for her ability to transform fabric into stunning outfits, often in just a day. Her natural charm and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone she met, and her jokes will forever be treasured memories for those who knew her.
She worked in the Section Engineering department at CF&I, where she took immense pride in her work before leaving her career to focus on raising her family. In her later years, Lorraine lived near her daughters, Suzette, Laura, and Diane, and enjoyed frequent trips to Black Hawk with her son-in-law, Marty, where she could spend all day happily playing.
Lorraine had an impeccable sense of style, always ensuring her lipstick and nails were flawlessly done. She built meaningful friendships in her apartment building, where she loved playing cards, a pastime she continued even after moving to assisted living.
Lorraine was deeply proud of her Slovenian heritage. She and her husband, Don, were devoted supporters of the Okolitza Tamburitzans. They enthusiastically helped with annual polka parties, concerts, and group travels, celebrating and sharing their culture. Lorraine’s sewing talents were also evident in the many costumes she lovingly created for the Tamburitzans.
A skilled baker, Lorraine was known for her delicious potica, and we all agreed hers was the best.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated caregivers at her assisted living for their kindness and support.
Lorraine lived a remarkable 97 years, and her loss will be deeply felt by all who loved her.
Živio to you, Laura, Dad, and Nana. Rest in peace, our sweet mom.
We love you more, even though you loved us first. Lahko noc mom.

Please know that my heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time. There will not be a day that goes by that I do not think about her and the beautiful memories we shared.
I had the privilege of caring for Lorraine over the last year. A day never went by without being filled with her smile, a joke or a kind word. Her endurance was truly empowering. I feel honored to have met her, to have gotten to know her, to have cared for her and to have given her a loving place in my heart. RIP Lorraine, with Love
Sorry about your loss , thoughts & prayers to the family , RIP , memories .
Mrs. Stanko was such an important part of my upbringing. She was such delightful woman. So many events, trips, performances, and get togethers between our families. Even as a child, I intrinsically knew she was a very special lady. As an adult, I appreciate her so much more. Never afraid to be herself, stand up for what is right, always full of a loving, supportive comment – and a personality as big as her smile. I learned through her example of the power being your authentic, unapologetic self. What a force. I will carry her in my heart and send my deepest love to you and the family.
We will always remember all the jokes she told us at Affinity, she will be missed.
Debbie, Charles, Dana
I did not know Lorraine well, but I always enjoyed seeing her when she would come to happy hour, and other events here at Affinity. I will remember her smile and her laughter. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
