Frances Catherine Cowen, 88, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away March 11, 2012, surrounded by all her family. Survived by her daughters, Catherine (Daryl) Wedwick of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Betsy Cowen of Pueblo, Mary Cowen (Jay Newberg) of Boulder, Therese (Don) Colalancia of Pueblo; grandchildren, James Beitner, Mike Beitner, Christy Colalancia, Sara Colalancia; sister, Margaret Payne of La Jolla, Calif.; special niece, Susan Naughton; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Owen Cowen; brother, John Naughton; and sister, Betty Jo Clote. Born to Frank and Mary Ann Naughton on Jan. 29, 1924, in Alamosa, Colo. She married James on Dec. 15, 1945, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She worked in the main office at the CF& I Steel during World War II. Frances was active in the Catholic church and was one of the founding members of St. Pius X Parish. She served as president of the Catholic High School PTA. A proud Democrat, she was very active in the election process, serving as an election judge for many years. She was a long time volunteer at Parkview Medical Center, and later at Our Lady of the Meadows Parish. Frances enjoyed being a homemaker, seamstress, excellent cook, stained-glass artist, and traveler. Visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Church, 3130 Morris Ave., followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery. The family thanks all Frances' care givers over the last five years, especially the staff of Joni Fair Hospice House for the compassionate care during her last days. In lieu of food and flowers, memorials may be made to Sangre de Cristo Hospice through Montgomery & Steward. Online condolences,
